Sonar Protection cannot be fixed :(

i have version 18.6.0.29.

I notice today that my norton was at risk and when i pushed fix now it failed and gave me an error code so i followed instructions and installed the intelligent updater for my version of windows. Doing so made it run live update and then try to fix 'SONAR Protection' but every time it fails, does anyone have some info on how to fix this problem please? i had a look around the message boards but coud not find anything that was of use :(

Soulreaver,

Have you tried using Norton Removal Tool and reinstalling?

Hello Soulreaver

You seem to  be having the same problem as the posters have had in this thread,

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/SONAR-Problem-Error-3039-69638/td-p/449178

That problem isn't solved yet either.:(

I am having some what the same issue. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice now. After I run the update and reboot, shortly there after I get the message that my definitions are not up to date. However running the liveupdate yields only more issues as it says everything is current. This is the first time this has ever happened. I also have version 18.6.0.29

Unfortunately, no one has mentioned if the product involved is NIS or NAV.

Also, please make sure your system time and date are correct.

If you wish to invest a little time, you might want to consider a complete uninstall first.  By design, the NRT does not remove all files, so please follow the instructions below even if they seem redundant.

  • Download and Save the Norton Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Download and Save the NIS 2011 Installer to your desktop.  (If NAV is the product, here is the link: NAV 2011 )
  • For temporary protection, turn on your Windows Firewall.
  • Back up your Identity Safe Data to a convenient location. Have your product key handy.
  • Uninstall your current Norton Version via Add-Remove Programs or Programs and Features.
  • If prompted, do not select the option to save your settings.  Select "Please remove all user data...." (see image here)
  • Restart your computer when prompted.
  • After the restart, run the Norton Removal Tool.
  • Restart your computer when prompted.
  • Perform a search for any Symantec / Norton Files and delete them.
  • Restart you computer.
  • Right click on the NIS 2011 Installer and select “Run As Administrator” (XP users just double click).
  • If prompted, enter your product key and set up your Norton account.
  • Check that Norton has turned OFF the Windows Firewall.
  • Run Live Update a few times until no more definitions are available.

For your convenience, I have attached printable instructions.
