Upgraded NIS 2009 to 2010 on 2 PC’s from Norton Update Center with no problem (without 1st removing NIS 2009). When attempted same on 3rd PC, the following happened. (Note: XP-SP3, IE8, upgraded last year from NIS 2008 to 2009 with no problem).
- 1) Auto Detect Pkg downloaded OK, detected NIS 2009, and suggested upgrade to 2010.
- 2) Started download, “NIS Downloader.exe” appears to complete download OK, when does verifying and error check, get error “the specified path does not exist” (path is to a temporary internet files folder).
- 3) After deleting Auto Detect Pkg and NIS Downloader, did as above except selected save (to desktop) instead of run on NIS Downloader. Downloaded OK, but when try to run from desktop, get same “the specified path does not exist” error (except this time path is to desktop).
- 4) Norton Support spent a long time trying to upgrade also, unsuccessfully. Their efforts included deleting various temp files from the PC, and downloading the full NIS 2010 install package to the desktop. When attempting to run that, they got the same error. They suggested possible server issues, and to try again in a couple of days. It’s been more than a week now, and have tried 1 - 3 above several times with same result.
Note: Neither I nor Norton Support attempted removal of NIS 2009 with NRT before 2010 install. Not sure why they didn’t. I did not because felt might be some other issue (not related to NIS 2010 upgrade attempt) and that might not be able to get NIS 2009 back in the worst case (although have downloaded various other software and software updates on this PC with no problems).
Hope above info suggests possible issue to someone.
