Second time this week I had a bluescreen crash so I figured I should post. First time I was watching a movie using Mediaplayer Classic HomeCinema and this most recent time I was playing Minecraft.
Here are my system specs:
- OS: Windows XP SP3
- RAM: 3 GB DDR2
- Audio: Soundblaster X-Fi
- Video: nVidia GeForce 7600 GS
The following NIS information is based on a Symantec employee's questions a month ago in this old thread
- Norton: 20.3.0.36
- Realtime Protection -> Enable Boot Time Protection
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\SRTSP
There is also another registry key that was not mentioned in the old thread but I'll include it anyway:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SRTSPX
Finally, I've done a full system scan with Norton and Malwarebytes and both reported a clean system. I also ran O&O Defrag to defrag my drives.
Hi,
A quick check shows that srtsp.sys is
Related to SRTSP.SYS Symantec antiviral software driver
Not sure why it sould be causing a blue screen unless it was under attack.
Keep us posted
There may be an issue with your installation. Try clicking on Support - Get Support to run Autofix to check your installation and fix what it finds.
If that does not find anything, it might be worth reinstalling your NIS using the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool.
Download the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from here www.norton.com/nrnr
If you use Identity Safe, backup/export your data. Use the CSV format for compatibility.
Run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool.
Reboot.
Run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
Try to log into your Identity Safe. If you can, you are done. If not, Import your Identity Safe data.
Well, I ran the autofix as suggested and all it said was it "fixed 1 item(s)" but it didn't really say what.
Here's what it copied to the clipboard:
Norton Internet Security
20.3.0.36
Microsoft Windows XP
2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.120821-1629
Norton Autofix Results: 1 item(s)
Installation :: Success
Autofix does not tell you anything about what it fixed. There is at least one suggestion in the Product Suggestions board about this.
Is you system still getting BSODs? If so, try the reinstall I suggested. If that does not work I may have one more suggestion.

Well so far it's been pretty stable but it hasn't been very long. I will post back if it happens again.
Thanks.
