In my case it seems the xbox update also solves the problem.
thanks for your support.
Hi,
First off, thank you so much for posting on the Norton Community and sharing dump files with us.
After analysing the dump files, we understand that this is not a Norton product issue. The crashes are related to some gaming processes/files. This issue could have been caused by a previous update released for the gaming service in Windows. Please update to the latest version: https://support.xbox.com/
Thank you.
Mine updated the gaming services just now and no BSOD.
Yesterday I ran all updates on windows store and still had the problem. Today, a new version of Gaming Services 3.63.16003.0 was available and updated on my system. Now it appears to work without BSOD, I was able to open a few games and also do a full system scan without a crash. XBOX app version is 2202.1001.9.0 (installed yesterday with a clean install).
I can confirm that by updating the Xbox app to the latest version the issue seems to be resolved. It's worth pointing out that I've also reinstalled my Norton 360 software.
I am experiencing the same issue and can also replicate it by scanning the xboxgames folder. Adding a folder exclusion seems to work but that's not ideal. I opened a case with Norton Online Chat Support but they are incorrectly telling me that it's not a Norton issue even though I told them uninstalling Norton or excluding the folder will fix the problem. I have emailed Gayathri for a link to upload the full memory dump. Not happy about wasting an hour with chat support and no help.
I just restarted my system to apply the setting mentioned by Gayathri_R and figured I'll just double check for any updates via the Microsoft Store, noticed the Xbox app had updated again. Went to repeat the steps to trigger the BSOD and to my surprise all my Xbox gamepass games now launch correctly via start menu and by the xbox app/microsoft store.
I'd recommend anyone facing this issue try updating the Xbox app via the Microsoft Store:
Hi,
Thank you for posting on the Norton Community. Sorry about the issue you're facing. Could you please collect the Complete Memory Dump and upload it to this thread so we can analyse it?
To enable Complete memory dump setting, follow these steps:
In Control Panel, select System and Security > System.
Select Advanced system settings, and then select the Advanced tab.
In the Startup and Recovery area, select Settings.
Make sure that Complete memory dump is selected under Writing Debugging Information.
Restart the computer.
Should the crash occur again, please upload the dump file to this thread. Or upload to any file-sharing service and send me a private message with the link.
Thank you.
Just to add to my update from yesterday I noticed that the XBOX app recently updated the drivers it uses (gameflt.inf and xvdd.inf) which is when the issue started with Norton AV. Hopefully this is something can that be fixed soon.
Same issue here when launching Flight Simulator 2020 and Forza Horizon. Multiple BSODs with diferent description.
Uninstalled Norton and so far no more problems... But of course this needs a solution soon.
Edit: it also happens when trying to download a game, not only when opening it.
I'm also experiencing this issue, only occuring when attempting to load a game that was downloaded via the Microsoft Store/Xbox app.
I think the problem in my case is somehow related to MSI Afterburner.
If i close Afterburner games are working, when i start then Afterburner again, games maybe are starting but often PC is crashing even when i only start XBOX App.
so i don't want to close Afterburner or Norton to play games, please find a fix.
Same issue here. Started to show BSOD yesterday only when playing games that were installed recently. I was playing without a problem until monday. Windows 11 and Norton are up-to-date. Had to uninstall Norton Internet Security to solve.
I also have the same issue. As soon as I start Microsoft Flight Simulator my PC crashes with a BSOD.
Windows 10 and Norton Internet Security are up-to-date.
I know this is probably redundant but I also have this issue when trying to launch xbox games in Windows 11.
I've also noticed that the issue has manifested when I leave it and it goes idle, although not every time.
One interesting fact is the BSOD is happening only when running games that are subscription based with Xbox game pass. I have Doom eternal subscription based which is causing BSOD and Metro Exodus as a standalone purchase which have no BSOD issue.
I have exactly the same issue, see minidump attached. Norton interacts with SYMEFASI64.SYS in such a way it causes a BSOD when starting an Xbox app. Disabling Norton seems to resolve the issue, but as soon as it comes back up it immediately BSOD's into "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION".
Any orientation is welcome. I'm running Windows 10 and my GPU drivers are all up to date.
I am having the exact same problem. I have even reinstalled Windows 11 twice and the only way I can use game pass is to uninstall Norton.
Thank you for your actions. I have shared the required dump file in private message. As 300 mb limit for log file is too low.
