@btreloar May I suggest opening task manager, select the startup tab and see if these are listed there and set to enabled.

Thanks, Soul Asylum. I just checked and they’re all enabled.

Previously when this happened, I would go to Startup Apps in Control Panel and found some enabled and occasionally some not. If they were disabled, I re-enabled them and rebooted. again, they failed to start and sometimes I’d see in Startup Apps that they’d become disabled again, though sometimes they were still enabled despite failing to load.

Finally, in despair, I thought I’d look for some help and advice here.

Another thought is, these are being tagged at startup so the boot process can hand off to Windows to load. I’m not at my Windows 11 laptop currently that has the latest version of Norton installed. Can you set these three to launch with a delay, reboot and recheck? TIA.

SA

At least this time, the Acronis backup app loaded delayed. The other two didn’t load.

Actually, Acronis loaded but the scheduler service didn’t. And I can’t open Aconis from the icon in SysTray. On further checking, the Scheduler Service and one other Acronis entry now appear as Disabled in the Norton Startup Manager while I’d set them to Delayed along with the main Acronis True Image app.

I’m really puzzled.

Another thing to look at on your side. Make sure you are logged in to the computer with admin credentials. Then. Open services in Widows. See if there are services there for Acronis. I use Macrium Reflect and have its service set to automatic, it starts with Windows boot time. If you know the parameters you can set those there as well. Check for the other services that aren’t properly loading in this area as well.

I’ve set the Acronis scheduler service for Delay, and re-set Dropbox and Greenshot to Delayed. I rebooted and none of those three loaded. I checked in Task Manager, and all three were again marked Disabled. So I re-enabled them.

Norton appears to be resetting Windows start items as it sees fit for the sake of impact on boot. Norton should fix this mess accordingly.

@Gayathri_R Please forward to the appropriate dev / engineering teams for action. The product should NOT be overriding custom user settings in the OS.

Thanks!.. Are we sure Norton’s the culprit? Even if I make the changes directly in Control Panel Startup Apps, they get reset when I reboot.

The new Norton product is the issue, lets make sure you have done the following:

  • Set the start type in Windows services? Your answer was - I’ve set the Acronis scheduler service for Delay, and re-set Dropbox and Greenshot to Delayed

***Double check in Norton startup manager to ensure the items show “startup” ? This should match the setting in Windows service startup type. CHANGE the setting to “automatic”, reboot and retest..

If these do not start with Windows and these settings are still the same after a reboot Norton is the issue.

Hello, do you also have Norton Utilities installed? Could you please check if the specified applications are not “disabled” by the Norton Utilities (Manager programs → Processes)?

Sorry, but no — I don’t have Norton Utilities installed. Is there another way to check startup apps? I can see them in Control Panel | Startup Apps or in Ccleaner, if that helps.

Please check the mentioned applications in CCleaner Performance Optimizer to see if they are not sleeping.

After my latest rebooot, I manually started the three apps at issue: Acronis True Image, Dropbox, and Greenshot. All three show as sleeping in Ccleaner.

In Norton, the first two show Startup while Greenshot is listed as Disabled. That matches what I see in Control Pane | Startup Apps.

In this case, wake up the applications in CCleaner if you want them to start automatically at boot.

I’ve tried that. I’ve also tried making the changes in Control Panel Startup Apps. Wherever I set them, one or more of them seem to automatically revert to disabled when I do a reboot. Always the same three apps.

@btreloar May I suggest. Remove CCleaner and reboot. Retest for the items to start with Windows.

SA

I’ll try that. Thanks.

Well, it looks like uninstalling Ccleaner did the trick. Thanks for the suggestiln!

Is there a way can reinstall Ccleaner without this issue returning?
