Startup programs issue

Hi, I just upgraded to Norton 360 v5 and I did a PC tune up by managing the startup programs. What I did is that I turned off all the startup programs. Then I restart my machine and start to have big problems. One of the problems was I couldn’t start Norton 360. I can see the icon in the system tray but when I double click or right click I get no respond what so ever. Thus I tried to reinstall 360 and I had some problems doing so but at the end after using Norton removal tool I did reinstall it and now I can access its menu and everything. The problem is I can’t see my old startup programs in the list of the startup programs manager in the PC tune up area. (and now they are not working every time I start up my PC). I want to restore my old startup programs because now I can’t use my Laptop full functions and most of the programs and hardware are not working properly. What should I do?

I use vista home premium sp2. Norton 360 v5 premium edition.

Welcome jasem1987

Sorry to see that you are having an issue

Would you also click on the torn page icon at the top of your IE9 screen so that your message is visible to the rest of us

That will make it much easier for us to attempt to assist :smileywink:

Just upgraded to 360 v5.online.  Norton will not run in any mode. Have Firefox 4 but cannot run hotfix tool as it does not see N360. When I check to see if I am up to date on Norton site it says I am up to date. WTF

When I try to run N360 I get the following message

C:\program files\norton360\norton360\engine\5.0.2.1\uiStub.exe     -   unspecified error

Automated supportm "Nathan" absolutely no help.

Thanks for any help.

Have you tried to 'restore' your system?

I would also hope that you have a backup of your 'C' drive

Sounds like something got scrambled during installation

Try this; uninstall 360 and reinstall. If you want to be very positive run the Norton Removal Tool rather than uninstall

After rebooting install 360 again and run LU until you get all of the updates

Hope this helps

Hi jasem1987,

Check the Windows startup settings to see if you can re-enable the items that Norton 360 disabled.  Click Start > Run and enter the word msconfig and click OK.  Go to the Startup tab.  Items with a green checkmark will launch at startup.  Reenable any items by clicking the box next to each or use the "Enable All" box below the list.  Restart your computer.

saberjim,

If you're getting a uistub.exe error, then Norton is having difficulties displaying the user interface of the program, which may be due to outdated or conflicting video drivers.  Try updating your video drivers via device manager, or manually do so through the manufacturer's website.  Make sure that Adobe Flash is up to date too.

Hope this helps!

The problem is that I can't see my old startup programs (even in the msconfig startup list)  I only see the ones that was installed or activated after the problem occurred. To be more clear no empty check box appear in the list. I hade maybe 40 startup program but now I can see only 11 startup program. I'm now not using Norton applications at all. I'm waiting to solve this then I will use Norton 360 because my system becomes really slow and hang a lot when using 360 v5. I'm still can't use most of the functions of my laptop and software. I did not backup my files and I will not restore my system. All what I think I need to do is to find some sort of a log of all the startup programs activated in my system over time and locate there locations and run them again and see what happen. Am I using a good solution path or is it useless?

I think the best thing to try at this point is Windows System Restore.  If Norton is still installed, be sure to turn off Norton Product Tamper Protection before doing the restore operation.  You may need to uninstall/reinstall Norton afterward because a restoration to an earlier time usually tends to break Norton.

Unfortunately, my oldest restore point is at 2/5/2011 which is after the problem date.

I'm still not using any protection software and still can't find a solution. I know it will be good to backup and format put this will be teddies to me to reorganize every thing and redownload all the updates and reinstall all the software with the plugins and stuff.

I won't use or buy things from symantec again. buy
