Still Unresolved since early July

Another week has now gone by.  No word from Norton nor a fix.

The Firewall application blocking issue is still unresolved.

You promised to investigate the issue in early July.

"Thanks for reporting in Norton Community Forums. We have reported this issue to concern team for further investigation and will update once we get more details on fix."

We are now in mid September and the issue still has not been addressed.

This issue started with version 8.0.

What is the issue?

I receive the following messages daily:

FD00: (This appears to be an internal network address)  is attempting to access CommCenter.  Do you want to allow this connection?  Selecting Always use for "CommCenter" is totally ignored.

iPhone is attempting to access rapportd on your computer.  Do you want to allow this connection?

Selecting Always use for rapportd is ignored.

The computer 192.168.x.xxx is attempting to access rapportd on your computer.  Do you want to allow this connection?

Again selecting Always use for rapportd is ignored.

The computer 10.0.x.xxx is attempting to access netbiosd on your computer.  Do you want to allow this connection?  (This is an internal address on my network.)  Unfortunately, Selecting Always  use for netbiosd is ignored.

In Connection blocking, Trusted Network, CommCenter is set to allow all other connections.  It clearly does not.

Netbiosd is set to allow all other connections.  It clearly does not.

Resetting the firewall was of no assistance.  Uninstalling Norton with the Norton removal tool and then reinstalling Norton did not solve the issue.

It is not my configuration that is causing the issue.  I have several friends who just installed Norton 8.4 for Mac and now are reporting the exact same issues.

Thank you. Having a dialog pop up in front of you every 10 to 20 minutes is just not a workable situation.

Bummer. If that's the case for you, I fully expect the problem to return for me at some point. It's been fairly unpredictable.

Thank you.  I hope Norton quickly fixes this issue.  Clients are getting really impatient!

All: I have asked for the issue to be escalated once again. Lets see if anyone Norton takes the reigns.

Cheers

Thought Nozzle,

Glad your problem appears to be solved.  Norton Support essentially did the same for me - unfortunately, that did not resolve the issue.  Norton seems to be ignoring whatever setting I choose.  SueBo stated the issue well:

"Despite unchecking and rechecking the correct settings re allow/block, it makes no difference."

Count me as another user who's been dealing with this issue for ages. But today I seem to have solved it – at least on my machine, and at least for now.

I went into the Advanced > Connection Blocking settings and deleted all of the permissions settings for rapoortd, by getting rid of the top-level rapportd folder. That's it.

Earlier today, I was getting the popup every 20 seconds or so. Since deleting all rapportd-related permissions preferences, I haven't seen the popup once.

I would note that I never have this issue on a second machine that I use at another location – and I use them both with the same iPhone and iPad.

This says to me that the problem – at least in my case – is with the way to permissions are written and/or loaded into memory. A data column offset, an extra bit or missing bit of data or individual character, some other sort of formatting discrepancy... Who knows. But when the rapportd connection request comes in to Norton's listener, there's some kind of mismatch with what's in the permissions, Norton can't find an answer, and defaults to "Ask".

Time will tell if this points to a solid fix that Symantec can implement. I hope this helps at least some of the users affected.

Hi azdude - I have been having this issue for ages as well.  I too have a MAC and it keeps blocking apps accessing the net, which have been 'allowed'.   Despite unchecking and rechecking the correct settings re allow/block, it makes no difference.   Would be great to get a result soon.

Yes I have SoulAsylum.  The issue is this - I can select "ALLOW ALWAYS" and Norton totally ignores my request.  Either Norton for Mac has dementia or it is totally ignoring us.  That is what needs fixed.

Azdude. Have you had a look at this article?  Icloud, Trusteer (banking) and Airplay are the most likely culprits. Do you see either of these in Finder under applications?  I have personally brought it to Norton's attention, the ball is now in their court for gathering logs, etc. for a resolution. The admins most times will send a private message to the posters and confer with them in private. Have you received any messages regarding the issue from ANYONE Norton/Symantec? Thanks for your patience.

Cheers
