The way I use my computer I do not need this option and all it seems to do is slow the system down. I would like to know a way to shut off the startup scan.

What does the Caching actualy do. does it shut off more then the start and shut down scans ?
caching stores clean file information at system shutdown and store it until Auto-Protect is reloaded when the system is next started. When the system is started again, the information in the operating system boot files and startup files is compared to the contents of the cache. If the files have been modified, then Auto-Protect scans them. If the files have not been modified, then the files are not scanned.
