Hi!
I'm pretty new to Norton Ghost, but I've used alot of different backup software before.
My boss decided to buy Norton Ghost to seamlessly copy his old computer, which he is now using, into a new much faster one with completely different specs. I've made a complete backup of the old computer with Ghost.
I now tried to restore the old computer's files into the new one. I've been following several guides with the same result:
- If i check to verify the files, the progress stops at approx. 13%, saying something about "HDD can not be found".
- If i check not to, the results are the same, but on 99%. The NAS I'm copying from is brand new, and works flawlessly.
- At first, the network driver could not be found, but i worked around this problem by downloading the driver to a USB flash drive and loaded it.
- Restore anywhere is greyed out. Ghost is activated.
I also tried to do the "clean all" command to make sure that no invisible partitions would cause any trouble.
After the 99%, i tried to boot windows. The logo appeared, then the computer rebooted.
The workaround:
I disconnected the internal HDD and connected it to my external HDD USB chassis. I plugged it into the old computer to make a complete "copy disk". Before that i formatted the drive (NTFS) and created a partition. I managed to copy everything on the drive and plugged the HDD into the new computer. When i booted, the same thing happened.
I read somewhere that you can use the Windows CD and "upgrade" to make the system redetect the hardware, but I'm not able to find that.
- Ghost 15
- Windows XP professional SP3 x86
- Intel i3 on the new computer and P4 on the old one.
