My Norton 360 subscription is about to expire in 8 days. 360 has served me well. The problem is I'm low on funds and can't afford the $70 renewal fee right now. What happens when 360 expires? Does it offer any protection, just no updates? Can I disable 360 an install something free like Microsoft Security Essentials only for a few weeks, then uninstall it and renew my 360 subscription? Can I do this without actually uninstalling 360? All of this is a little inconvenient but times are tight and you gotta do what you gotta do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Techjourney,
I understand your situation. I don't know where you are located, but in the US, some of the office supply chains are offering good deals on purchasing 360 v3. At one location, if you are a rewards member it appears that the cost after the savings would be slightly above 50% of the retail cost.
If this is feasible, then as floplot mentioned, you can purchase the product and merely enter the new key 1 or 2 days before your subscription expires.
I hope that helps. Best Wishes.
Thank you for your prompt replies! I just found Norton 360 on eBay for 43.99. Using the Bing Cashback program, I saved 10% making the total 39.59. So I saved about $30 over the subscription renewal price. That's $30 I can use toward my electric bill!! I really appreciated the help. I should be getting 360 by Wed or Thur, just in time before my subscription expires!
Much Thanx!
Hello Techjourney
Please be very careful buying software on eBay. Please make sure that it is a closed, sealed box with the key unused. Please investigate the seller of the program and check his reputatioin. I remember one person in the last few months bought a key from eBay for one of the Norton products and it turned out to be a used key. So please make sure it is sealed. If it is a legit version of N360, then all you have to do is plug in the new key. Make sure it isn't a used program.
I made sure it was a new, never used product and not bootlegged before purchasing. The seller was a "Top Rated Seller with a 99.6% rating. eBay now has the Buyer Protection Program. If upon receiving the item, it's not as advertised, ebay will refund the money after trying to get the seller to "make it right". Thanks for the heads up though!
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I ordered a new, unused Norton 350 from a trusted seller on eBay. I choose this seller because they were so close to my state. It normally takes 2-3 days for packages sent USPS to arrive from DE to VA. Well because of the snowstorm, my package got diverted to Washington State--all the way on the west coast! My 360 subscription is due to expire on 2/14/2010. If the package doesn't arrive until after that date, will I still be able to simply enter the new product key or will I have to uninstall 360 on my PCs and then reinstall from the CD/DVD?
Hello Techjourney
Your N360 will cease to function on the expiration date. If you have to uninstall it, then you can download a newer version of N360 than will be on the CD. You would just need to enter the new key and won't have to use the actual new CD to install it. Remember to run live update as there will be updates to get.
Thanks for a prompt reply. So if I have to uninstall, will I need to use the Norton Removal Tool, then download and install the new version of N360?
Hello Techjourney
Yes, that should give you a clean install then. I would install it while you are offline, then come back to the net when it asks to activate and run live update.
Pardon me jumping in, but since you are coming up upon your expiration date:
If you use Identity Safe, please back up that data now to a convenient location on your computer.
If you have Comcast you can use Norton Security Suite (which is Norton 360 without the 2 gb of backup online). I use it. I switched from KIS.
Thanks everbody for your replies and tips! What a great community! I'll report back by 2/15/2010 to let you know how it all turned out.
Much Thanx
Well, because of the snowstorm, my boxed version of N360 just arrived today. My subscription exlpired on 2/14/2010. I uninstalled it using the Norton Removal Tool and then installed the free Microsoft Security Essentials to give me some protection until my package arrived. I noticed now vs 4 is available for download. Will the product key I have for vs 3 still work? Or will I have to install using the CD and let LIveUpdate do the upgrading?
Thanks
BTW, I will of course be uninstalling Microsoft Security Essentials before reinstalling N360.
You can install v4 from the appropriate download link and use your new product key.
There is no need to install v3 from the CD.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will download and report back tonight.
Just be sure to choose the correct version, Standard or Premier.
Thanks to all for your input and suggestions! Despite being low on funds and having to let my subscription expire; then having my boxed version of N360 take 11 days to be delivered--everything turned out ok. I downloaded and installed N360 v 4 on my laptop and netbook, typed in the new product key, and all is good!
I guess I can now consider this thread solved!
I am glad to hear of the happy ending!
Best Wishes.
