Note: new license key starts new subscription term
How do I remove payment profile?
@sparks118 I don’t know if this will work for you but try simply canceling your current subscription before the renewal date. During that process you will likely be prompted to give a reason for terminating. When I went through this last year, “too expensive” was one of the options in their list. I clicked on that and Norton offered me a great “one time” discount. But you have to do this before your current subscription expires. Also, if Norton didn’t send you any communication notifying you of this change, I’d use that as a bargaining chip to negotiate. They not only changed the price but the product so they should have given you advance notification.
you mean “canceling” automatic renewal / recurring subscription service…before the renewal date…?

@sparks118
No. I mean canceling your Norton subscription. The initial steps are the same as canceling your automatic renewal. Highlighted is the part about canceling the subscription.
This page has the instructions. Stop your Norton subscription from automatically renewing It also states:
Here are a few things you should know if you stop your subscription from automatically renewing:
- Your subscription will continue through the end of your already paid subscription term, after which it will end and not automatically renew.
- It typically takes a few hours from your request for the change to take effect.
- Any benefits associated with automatically renewing subscriptions may end when you stop your subscription from automatically renewing.
If you have already been charged and want to request a refund, please contact Member Services & Support.
When I went through this process to cancel last year because of the high cost, the system asked for my reason. When I selected that the cost was too high, I was given an option to renew for two years at a significant price reduction, so I opted to do that. There’s no guarantee that Norton will still offer that but it’s worth a try. You can always back out of the process if you decide to keep it.
Here’s what another Norton user did but for a different reason. Read this thread. Change subcritption program
If you cancel and resubscribe, I don’t know if you’ll be offered the reduced introductory price for new subscribers but you might. So before you cancel, check if your renewal price is the same or less than what you would be paying as a new subscriber. If it’s less, then it doesn’t make sense to cancel your subscription. That is, if you still want to stay with Norton.
In your message you mentioned that you can’t make changes to the subscription plan within 30 days of expiration. I’m not an attorney but I don’t think that includes terminating the subscription. Frankly, I find the 30-day no change policy unreasonable. I bet if you want to upgrade your plan, Norton would have no problem making that change within that window.
No thanks, cancel my subscription…refers to recurring subscription service.

Users report…not able to change subscription status ~30 days from term expiry…likely because Norton pulls payment ~35 days before term expiry (up to 35 days before renewal).

Yes. Good info, bjm. Consumer protection laws vary not only by country but also by state in the U.S.
By the way just an observation. Based on my own personal experience (and I’ve used Norton for 25 years), Norton does not always send timely renewal/billing notices. I almost filed a complaint with our State Attorney General’s office one year but fortunately my problem got resolved before we crossed that bridge.
Still can’t have the subscription i want. Renewal is off and remove my payment profile. Went to uk website and select Norton 360 Deluxe at £19.99 offer price. After selection order summery is £19.99 add my email address and password, the order summery change back to £64.99. Maybe the cheaper price only for new customers, not like me. If i can’t get this sorted out will seek advice elsewhere and leave Norton. Only got 2 weeks for sort this out. Help
Also in January 2024 i had subscription for Norton Antivirus at £29.99 In October Norton changed it to Norton 360 standard which I did not choose and put price up to £64.99. Now locked into that price and can’t change to a different subscription. Been with Norton for about 15 to 20 years.

That’s odd. Either Norton isn’t offering discounts any longer or things are different in the UK.
Here’s a possible workaround. I’ll qualify by saying that I’ve not done this myself but read several posts by people in the U.S. who have. They let the current subscription run out and immediately purchased a new Norton 360 at a retailer since they usually offer good discounts. I just checked. BestBuy (which you likely don’t have in the UK) is selling N360 Deluxe version at slightly under US$30. Amazon was even cheaper and I know there’s an Amazon UK. It might be worth a look if you want to stay with Norton. Doing this might mean creating a new user account with Norton but that’s just a guess on my part. You might search the Web and see what people in the UK are doing.
As annoying as this business practice is (of offering first year introductory prices then bumping up the subscription fee from year 2), Norton isn’t unique. This is pretty standard. I just took a look at Bitdefender and their introductory first year offer is about half its normal renewal price.
This is probably doubly annoying for you since you’re being “forced” to subscribe to a different Norton product at a higher price because Norton discontinued the product you were using. Good luck!
fwiw ~ regarding “business practice”
I have an annual manual pay auto club subscription. Two months before term expiry. I’m postal mail billed for full price. Two weeks later…email offered 20% discount to renew now. Two weeks later…email offered 15% discount to renew now. Six days before auto club subscription term expiry…email offered 50% discount to renew now…and take advantage of this special end of year offer ending 12/31/24.
@bjm Interesting. My guess is that your experience isn’t typical and may be because your auto club is involved. Are you in the U.S.? I’m asking since Norton has never mailed me anything through the postal service. Whether I even get timely subscription renewal reminders via email has been hit and miss. (I learned the hard way to note it on my calendar.) I recall getting maybe half a dozen discount offers in 25 years.
Do you cancel the auto renewal shortly after the new subscription starts? If you do, maybe that’s the trick to have Norton offer deals at the end of your subscription.
