Subscription cost, enormous renewal increase

I’ve been paying approximately $40 for my three machine norton 360. Suddenly this year it has jumped to $100. In my opinion the product has been on the down turn. Does this rate increase seem reasonable? Been 30 years, yet Avast is free.

@JohnOzuk Renewals are always over the top expensive compared to the offer for non-current customers. Avast is NOT recommended in my personal view, it has some of the same issues that Norton has because they both use the same core engine. Below is the current first year offer from Norton.

  • Renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless the renewal is canceled before billing. Renewal payments are billed annually (up to 35 days before renewal) or monthly depending on your billing cycle. Annual subscribers will receive an email with the renewal price beforehand. Renewal prices may be higher than the initial price and are subject to change. You can cancel the renewal as described here in your account or by contacting us here or at 844-488-4540.
  • Cancellation and refund: You can cancel your contracts and get a full refund within 14 days of initial purchase for monthly subscriptions, and within 60 days of payments for annual subscriptions. For details, visit our Cancellation and Refund Policy. To cancel your contract or request a refund, click here.

If your renewal was less than 14 days ago. You can also request a refund from the links above and purchase from a third party such as Amazon at a far cheaper price:

So if I renew I pay $100, new customers pay $40. Hardly seems a way to reward loyal customers. In my 30 nears of being a nortonite I’ve never run into this before. Wonder if I can cancel my subscription and then come back in as a new customer.

Glad hearing you got a better offer and cancelled the previous purchase. Just keep in mind that you can get better prices for Norton in department stores like Best Buy, online at Amazon, etc. We highly recommend that to forums users.

Thanks for all your help. Nortons business model makes no sense. Very odd as now you can get FIVE licenses for the same cost. I guess since they brought lifelock they need to make money somehow,

You’re welcome!!

One more issue. Once I get all I need to do is enter the new product key? On each machine, or just once?

Each machine.

Norton is using the same business model as many/most other subscription services. You get a discounted price to get you signed up and the renewals are charged at the current, usually higher, price. At least Norton allows you to let the old subscription expire (as long as you turn off auto renewal) and sign back up as a new customer. Some of the services require you to not have their service for 6 months before signing back up as a new customer.

You know, I’m lazy. If it went up $5 or $10 I’d just pay it. But a $60 increase? That got my attention.
