Superspyware download nightmare!

I downloaded it, and when I opened it...it attached an icon to my taskbar and my computer froze up.

It took me over 2 hours, but I got it uninstalled.  I thought it was a stand-alone, like Malwarebyteantimalware (MBAM), which I love!  It's not, as it attached to my taskbar.

Just wanted to warn people, as that was my experience!

I guess it just didn't like me! lol

It took me over 2 hours to just get it uninstalled, as it froze my whole computer up...and it was the the free version that I keep hearing folks talk about on here.  Maybe it was a quirk, but sure was a pain in the butt to get rid of.

It put an icon on my taskbar (and MSAM didn't), so I figured something was different.  Anywho, everything locked up and I finally was able to turn off my internet connection and my Norton AV and uninstall it.  Ran CCleaner and all is well.  That was last Friday, btw.

I just wanted to share MY experience with it, I realize others use it and have no problems.  But I have the dinosaur Compaq Presario XP, remember? lol

I'll stick with MSAM.  No problems with that at all.

donna3154, did that icon look like a lady bug?  I don't know why they always put that icon there..  But if you go to preferences, you can unclick add icon to taskbar.  On the next boot, it will not show up.

Hi Donna,

The icon is showing you it has a service running, much like the Norton globe icon on the right side of the taskbar.

If on the left side it is a Quick Launch icon which can be disable by right clicking an empty place on the taskbar and choosing Properties.

I have used it for a couple of years as a back up scanner with no problems on XP nor Windows 7. This is their official download page, if you got it from another place it may have been tampered with.

Hi Donna I have been following your travels with using computers for a while  and I note that you are using a computer with 256 mb of ram. I looked at the requirements  for a program like  superanti spyware needs at lest 256mb of free ram space to run. So if you have not added more ram to your computer you  should at the next chance add more ram. When I was using  windows xp I had 512mb of ram and it ran fairly well but it ran better with more ram.. I hope this helps.  ALF60

Thanks all!  I am going to order my RAM next week.  Hopefully, it will decrease some of the problems I've had.

BUT Adobe Flash has a serious issue...go to Adobe support forums! All sorts of folks from those with older computers like me to those with brand new computers!

I appreciate the quick responses, and I'm sorry I'm just now responding.  BUT, I had to walk away from the computer for a few days, I was so very aggravated with the Flash Player.  And yes, I have the latest update and yes I have deleted old versions. If you browse the Adobe support page, you'll see that MANY are at their wits end due to Adobe not addressing the freeze and crash issues...which carried over into the "fix" Flash 11.1.

Thanks again!

Donna

One reason I no longer suggest SAS but only MBM is precisely because people I trust tell me that in recent versions it is getting more and more invasive of the system.

Thanks Hugh,

That answered a couple of questions that I had concerning SAS.

You're welcome .... don't take it as gospel but I regard the sources as knowledgeable and reliable.

Hello Donna

The Adobe Flash Player does have a page with system requirements to run the 11 series also.

I xuppoxd if your computer doesn't meet those requirements, then you have to stick with the version 10 latest version. Like we are restricted from using IE 9 if we are still on xp pro.
