Hey guys, I am a long time Norton customer here, currently have 360 installed on 3 home computers. I use this in conjunction with Ad-Aware and scan almost daily. Out of nowhere my computer slowed to almost a crawl whlie opening programs. I have completed several full system scans while both norton and Ad-Aware and they both claim nothing found.
Harddrives are ok according to seagate tool. temperature running cool in the PC. The only thing I can think of is a virus but Norton is not finding it, any advise on where to turn to?
Calling Norton is not an option as I have had nightmare experiences in the past doing that.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions or advice offered.

Welcome Mike,
Sorry you are finding out that no one program can protect you from all of the 'nasties' all of the time. I will assume that your operating system is current with all of the patches and updates applied. Same with your Norton program. If you haven't done so please download, install, update and run Malwarebytes free scanner found here;
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
it's Norton compatible so keep it around for whenever you feel the need for a second opintion. It runs best from the desktop. Running a scan from safe mode with NIS/NAV can also uncover things that are not found when run from the desktop. The most aggressive tool is the Norton Power Eraser. Save this one for last. It's here: http://us.norton.com/support/DIY/index.jsp
Please post back with your results. We'll be here when you need us.
Thanks for the reply Dick. I should of posted my operating system, Windows7(x64) all updated. Thank you for the links. Should I simply diagnos with these tools or allow them to 'fix' problems? From skimming some other posts I am concerned it may remove important files my OS may need
Thanks again
Well, hopefully I am not speaking too soon but I scan with the Malebytes turned up 15 threats that neither Norton or Ad-Aware found. Most of those were extensions of Google Chrome that I had tried to delete. After getting rid of them it seems to have solved my issue. Hopefully I am not speaking too soon :)
Thanks again! I will up date for sure tomorrow after having a little more time

Mike,
Glad to read that you have found a possible solution. Looking forward to your confirmation and the closing of this thread. Do keep Malwarebytes on your desktop and use it. Their focus is a bit different than Norton's so they often find less threatening, but still VERY anoying, 'nasties' that have found a home in your system.
There is still no one program that will protect you from all threats all of the time. MWB is a good compliment to Norton.
Stay well and surf safe
Hey Dick-
I can confirm that all is back to normal with my PC. Thank you very much for the help. MalewareBytes saved me, now I have 3 scans to do (Norton, Ad-Aware, MalewareBytes) heck if something finds a home on my system with all that..I am really in trouble.
Since the files causing all the problem were googlechrome extrentions I remember downloading chrome on a friends advice and then never using it. Not sure what went wrong but I usually say, when there is nothing broke theres no need to fix anything...I should of listened to my own advice before DL another program.
You can close this thread, thank you again.
