Switch My Norton Account Information

I have been setting up a few Norton accounts for various users in my family over the past year or so.  Because it was easy at the time, I just set their computers up with my Norton account.  It is coming time for them to renew their subscriptions, but all of their subscriptions are associated with my norton account.

Is there any way that I can get a Norton account created for them, and then move their subscription from my norton account to theirs?

Thank you for your time!

Hi itguy8423,

You cannot switch a Norton product from your account to another account. I myself had that problem - I purchased Norton for another family member via my own account, then went to Symantec Customer Support to ask if they could switch it over to my father's account - which they said was impossible. They said that they were very sorry about this, but there was nothing they could do about it, and the subscription would have to be renewed through my account :-/

They may not be able to switch subscriptions to another account but you should be able to allow the current subscription to almost run out and then completely uninstall the software on the other computers and run the Norton Removal tool to make sure everything is cleaned out.

They should then be able to purchase the full version of NIS or whatever whereupon they should be able to create their own account and reinstall on their own.

The Norton Removal tool can be found here. NOTE that if you do this it will remove all Norton/Symantec products so be sure they have their product keys for any other Norton software they own.

Also, please note that if they use Identity Safe they should back up this data so that it can be restored later when they reinstall NIS or whatever. Procedure for backing up Identity Safe can be found here.

What Customer Service cannot do is actually move an existing subscription to another user but you should be able to accomplish this as above once the current subscription runs out.

Hope this helps.

Hi itguy8423,

It may be best if you check with Symantec Customer Support to see which route is the best for you to take in your case. You can chat with Customer Support for free over here:

By all means check with Customer Service on the above. I actually went through this once myself about 10 years ago and I know it worked like a charm then. :smileyhappy:

The part you have to be careful about is that the other person must purchase the full version on their own and not just a renewal which would want to link to the current subscription.

Hopefully this process will still work but check with Customer Service to be sure.

Hi itguy8423,

I was wondering if you had a chance to chat with Customer Service on this and if so what was the outcome?

Thanks

Allen
