Symantec on android market

i’m looking for symantec product in android market… It’s all completely / unlimited free or just free for few days/months? Thx before

We have a section in the forums for Mobile so be sure to submit your future questions there.

We have several apps available in the Android Market now, under developer 'NortonMobile'.  We have both free and paid apps.  You are probably asking about Norton Mobile Security (NMS).  That one has a free Lite version and a full version.  I believe they are also doing Public Beta testing as well.

Hopefully that answers your question.

but it shows 15-day trial on symantec website http://us.norton.com/downloads/

Hi NugrohoRaharjo,

Welcome to the community.

You are correct that it shows up on the link you referred to, as a 15 day trial, but that then goes through to the Android Market and I'm not sure that that can handle a 15 day free trial so I'm not sure exactly what was meant by 15 day trial.

However, if you are interested in trialing Norton Mobile Security (NMS) for your Android phone (if you have a tablet then a different Norton product would be better) then you can download NMS Lite from the Android Market for free.  This protects your phone from malware and allows you to lock the phone remotely if it gets lost.  If you like what you see you then have the option of going for a paid upgrade that gives more Anti-Theft protection options.  I think Norton will even offer a full refund of the upgrade cost if you decide you don't like it in the first 60 days.

Another option is to download a version directly from Norton and this would give you a fully functional version free for 3 days.  That said, this server seems to be temporarily down so the Android Market is probably your best bet.

If the above does not answer your questions in full then feel free to come back with more.

thanks for your reply. The conlusion of your comments say that NMS Lite is fully free without trial if i download it in the android market. It’s right?

Yes.  :-)

and then, what’s about this issue? Feature doesn’t work! described as: “• Find my Phone - Phone Locator! Norton can help you locate your missing or lost phone using GPS tracking and return a location using Google Maps” Well, I don’t always leave GPS enabled cuz it drains battery. It sees the app doesn’t enable GPS if needed. When my phone was taken, it didn’t work. I was able to lock it, but not locate it. i was read it from android market https://market.android.com/details?id=com.symantec.mobilesecurity. And the anti-theft protection, what is the feature that disabled in free version? SIM lock? GPS tracking?

Is the question why NMS does not automatically enable GPS or what is not available in the free Lite version?

yes, but i’ve read the user review in android market, it’s says that “Feature doesn’t work! described as: “• Find my Phone - Phone Locator! Norton can help you locate your missing or lost phone using GPS tracking and return a location using Google Maps” Well, I don’t always leave GPS enabled cuz it drains battery. It sees the app doesn’t enable GPS if needed. When my phone was taken, it didn’t work. I was able to lock it, but not locate it.”

From my understanding of that user review, the user disabled GPS to save battery and his phone was then stolen. Since GPS was disabled, he was unable to locate the device.

I believe that without root access, we are unable to enable the GPS function on when the user sends a Locate command, so unless the GPS function is already enabled, Locate would be disabled.

As long as GPS is online, our locate feature will function properly.

so my mobile should be rooted if i’ve disabled the GPS and want to locate my mobile?

Hi NugrohoRaharjo,

Norton Mobile Security (NMS) is not designed to take advantage of the extra features available if a phone is rooted.  So having a rooted phone or not makes no difference to how NMS works.

If you choose to have GPS turned off then NMS cannot use that.  Your choice.

I used to leave GPS off because of battery concerns but someone advised me that it makes little or no difference to the battery when it is not being actively used.  So I now leave it on permanently and have not noticed any extra drain on the battery - and I NMS can use it if I ask it to.

I hope that helps clarify things for you.

ok thanks for you all… i will try NMS lite…

Good luck with NMS Lite NugrohoRaharjo.

Just wanted to make it absolutely clear that the "locate" function only works with the upgraded (i.e. paid for) version of NMS Lite.

On the free version the only Anti-Theft feature that comes with it is "Lock".
