Since being prompted to upgrade to the latest version of Norton 360 I am constantly receiving messages saying that "Symantec Service Framework has discovered an error and needs to close". I have also twice now discovered (via Windows) that the virus protection is out of date.
Tried to contact customer services (?!!!) and don't believe there are any humans on board. Online help (?!!!) sends me round in circles and round the bend!
I have now uninstalled/reinstalled twice, but the same things keep happening time and time again...
Which OS and Service Pack you are having? Which Version of N360 you were having previous to update and you have updated to which version? Give more details for us to understand your problem here to help you better.
Hi there, and thanks for the reply. I'm running XP on Service Pack 3. Updated to the most recent version 20.1.1.2 - not sure about the previous version of Norton 360 to be honest, but I usually keep up to date...
Have tried at least 2 more times to install N360 ver 20 and now I think I have it.
What did I do?
Uninstalled N360 using the uninstall that came with the product (downloaded ver 20 from my account) and then ran the downloadable Norton_Removal_Tool ver 20.0.0.21 rebooting after each time.
Then installed using N360-ESD-20-1-1-2-EN.exe
And now appears to be ok. However may have to wait a day or two for the final verdict.
After trying at least 3 more times I finally gave up on Norton 360 ver 20 and went back to Norton 360 ver 6.
Seems to be ok after a few days of it running it's still ok.
I did run Norton Power Eraser which showed some 5 system files related to .NET Framework versions 1, 2, and 4.
Norton Power Eraser did not recognize some of the signatures and authors.
I'm thinking that Norton 360 ver 20 may require different .NET Framework versions than what my cpu is capable of.
What I do know is that when I tried to run Win 8 on this cpu it would not run the Metro/Start programs at all. Which was actually due to my outdated Amd Processor chip that would not run .NET Framework 4.5 which is required for the Metro/Start programs to run.
Of course the fix for Win 8 was to buy a new cpu. And the system requirements for Win 8 do not specify this. Neither does Norton??
By the way I used this download for Norton 360 ver 6: N360-ESD-19-8-0-14-EN.exe
Problem caused by renewing my subscription for 3 PCs and upgrading to latest version from V6. Worked fine on 1st two PC's but not 3rd. Have spent hours uninstalling, reinstalling, with no results. Norton 360 box is ticked as if it is installed ut as soon as you try to click on anything, settings, or to run liveupdate it just blanks out and gives the the Symantec Service Framework is not responding.
Many thanks for your assistance. You obviously know far more about computers than me!
I checked the .NET Framework and I had Version 3.5 installed. I've now installed Version 4.0 (plus updates) but it is not offering me 4.5, so is this essential, please?
Incidentally, I'm running XP SP3 on an XP3200 Athlon, if it's relevant.
I am still waiting to hear from Norton on this, but Tony Weiss has given me some credit for the input.
That appears to be very similar to my system. It's an older Athlon XP 2600+ and 32 bit which is slow but not built for speed.
My understanding of these processors is that the earlier Athlon XP's 64 bit Would run .NET Framework ver 4.5 , but the 32 bit version would not. Is yours 32 bit?
Install Norton 360 ver 6. It will Update to ver 6.4.0.9. Just Do Not ask it to Check for a New Version!!
Don't know about Win 7 except to check that your computer is up to date, in Win 7 I think it's Control Panel/all Control Panel Items, then Windows Update. And of course you can see all of the Windows Programs and Features, then click Turn Windows and Features on or off. You should be able to see .NET Framework 3.5.1 Make sure you have all the .NET updates. Win 8 comes with the required set already installed, obviously so that the Metro/Start programs will run.
And of course make sure that when you reinstall Norton that all of the old ver of Norton is removed first.
When I checked for a new version on my wife's Win 7sp1 x64 laptop it went right ahead and upgraded without a problem. Of course I knew it was up to date prior.
