Symantec Service Framewrok Has Encountered A Problem

During this week I noticed that both of my systems encountered the same problem. Symantec Service Framework Has encountered a problem and needs to close (Note:This happens right after a startup). The icon for Norton AV disappears. What’s up with this. These systems have been running for 6 months and then this happens out of the blue. When the Icon disappears does that mean the system no longer has AV protection?? Any thoughts on this problem.

There’s one or two really long threads on this subject already, you might want to check 'em out… It seems that an update (16.7.2) that Symantec pushed out has been giving some users issues, such as the one you’ve mentioned… Some managed to solve it by un-installing, using the Norton Removal Tool, and doing a clean install. Bit of a hassle but worth trying… For my part I just received the update on one system w/o any issues, but I’ve got two more to go (a netbook and a Win7 RC system, so we’ll see).

This is not a solution that should be taken litely. An uninstall and reinstall is not neat and easy with Noton. The question is when they are going to fixe the mess that they created. They have left millions of systems unprotected.

An uninstall and reinstall takes about twenty minutes with the current tools and install files.  Why do you say it is not neat and easy?

I agree with dbris. It really does go smoothly nowadays :-)  In ye olde times, on the other hand, it was really a nuisance ;-))

What Version was this happening with?

This thread is closed. I believe if they caused the problem they should fix it. This thread was for solutions not whys.

Hi, Harley51,

Are you still getting the Framework Error?  If so, what Norton Product and Version are you using?
