Just four months ago, we took a bold step as a company by announcing our intention of splitting Symantec into two companies. One focused on security and the other on information management.  Our belief that to remain a powerful player in the security industry, we must focus and move more swiftly to deliver solutions that are designed to address today’s advanced attacks and leverages the vast amount of threat data we collect globally every day was one of the reasons grounding this decision.

As a stand-alone security company, our strategy includes building a Unified Security platform. The fuel that will run this platform is the data we collect from our massive global threat intelligence network, which generates real-time insights from hundreds of millions of Norton and Symantec endpoints and 42 million attack sensors, and records thousands of events per second. No other company sees more or knows more about the threat landscape than Symantec.

But data is useless unless you can apply meaning to it. Therefore the mission of our Unified Security platform is to derive intelligence out of our data through analytics that will help our customers make informed decisions about how to prevent, detect and remediate attacks. To accelerate our efforts, we’ve entered into an agreement with Narus, a Boeing subsidiary recognized as a leader in cybersecurity big data analytics, that will bring approximately 65 engineers and data scientists with expertise in machine learning, security, big data analytics and networking to Symantec to help us develop our platform.

This talented group of hard-to-find experts joins us this month. We are thrilled to bring the Narus team on board at this critical time in our company’s future. We are building a new Symantec and together I know we’ll bring to market solutions designed to solve tomorrow’s biggest challenges that only big data can address.
