System Restore points not created automatically;continued

Following my earlier post, when I was advised that Windows 7 only creates restore points after 7 days, I waited for more than 7 days, without installing programs, etc which would create points automatically.I left one trigger only, but no restore point was created.(But what is the point of being able to schedule tasks if Windows disregards them, and only supposedly acts once a week ?)  The Scheduled tasks box gives no details as to why it hasn't  created a point after 8 days. I have Internet Security 2012, and suspect it has some bearing on this. What can I do ? I do back up regularly, but an ability to roll-back is important to me.Why else have System Restore at all ?

(I despair of ever posting this-the captcha won't succeed after more than 6 tries when i'm sure they're right.)

Hi hunterslight:

Have you tried purging the existing Restore Points and establishing a new one?

"System Restore can be configured to create restore points at regular intervals. Users can also manually create and name a restore point at any time from within the System Restore user interface. These restore points are saved and compressed, and these choices are available to the user through the System Restore user interface. System Restore in Windows 7 creates a scheduled restore point only if no other restore points have been created in the last 7 days."

Atomic_Blast :)

I don't think Norton has any effect on Windows System Restore functions.  Check this tutorial:

There are instructions here using a vbscript to create the task.  I'm not sure if it can be done any other way.  You would just need to change the frequency.

Some other troubleshooting steps are here:

Make sure that it is enabled and that you have given it enough room for the restore points.

Hi huntersight,

I am not sure what is going on with your system, but something I have found on my Win 7.  I use the Win 7 Backup and Restore to backup parts of my system every Wed @ 1:00 PM to an external HDD.

It ceates a restore point prior to accomplishing a backup, so looking thru my System Restore Points,  I am seeing "Automatic" System Restore Points almost every Wed @ 1:00 PM.  There are weeks skipped recently (I have correlated that with being on vacation and the system off). Which makes sense.  I also have other System Restore Points show for Windows Update and an Adobe update.  In my case it may be possible that since I have a scheduled System Restore & Backup that creates a restore point that System Restore is not creating one on it's own and calling the Wed ones automatic in that Task Scheduler scheduled the backup????

"System Restore in Windows 7 creates a scheduled restore point only if no other restore points have been created in the last 7 days."

So since I do a backup every 7 days which creates an automatic restore point I will never show a scheduled restore point??

Thank you;and apologies to Norton as I felt Internet security was to blame somehow for the problem. I have at last managed to solve it, following Delphinium's suggestion from http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/how-to-create-a-daily-restore-poi...  It was fairly complicated, but worked.
