System Volume Information/EffaData is corrupt and Unreadable

Hi All. I had a recent experience with NIS I wanted to share with you in case anyone else is having this problem. I did a full disk backup of my HP Pavillion Laptop using Acronis True Image Backup Version 10. I saved the backup image to a USB external hard disk. Then I replaced my internal disk with a new larger hard disk. I restored from the backup image and rebooted my laptop with the external drive still connected. After that everytime I rebooted my laptop I got the error message "System Volume Information\EfaData is corrupt and unreadable. Please run Chkdsk utility..."

Running Chkdsk didn't do anything but take a really long time. I contacted Norton and they really made an effort to try to resolve the situation. When the first technician could not resolve the problem, it was escallated to a case manager. All in all they worked on my PC for several hours over the course of 2 days. Unfortunately the problem still remained. After doing a little research on my own, I decided to experiment. Here is what I did that resolved the problem:

I restored my laptop again using the same backup image from the same USB hard drive I used before. The difference is that once the laptop was restored, I disconnected the external drive BEFORE I rebooted the laptop. Viola! The error message was gone. When the Norton case manager called to continue working on my PC (again Kudos for tenacity) I explained my solution and he said he would make note of it in case anyone else reported a similar problem.
