I just updated Norton, and now my safe web and intrusion prevention are permanently disabled. Every time I activate them, they turn off a few seconds later.
are you v25.1.9816?
have you run Norton LiveUpdate + Restart (not Shut down) machine?
I ran LiveUpdate several times, and it did nothing, but then I restarted my computer once, and it the product started working again. Fully shutting my PC down didn’t work, but restarting it did? What kind of logic is that?
Thanks for your advice. I will keep monitoring my Norton product to see if it stops working again.
Microsoft logic. I imagine you have Fast Startup enabled. Restart does not employ Fast Startup.
wish i had answer, my Norton360 went from good to horrible in the last few weeks, whatever Norton did they ruined it!!!
Hello @spretired
If your Norton is not working as expected after you’ve tried Reset to Default & Repair Norton & clean re-install Norton 360…then…reach out to Norton support.
Norton Community is primarily user-to-user “working” product help.
Just had the same issue. Repairing Norton under Troubleshooting in Settings fixed it for me.
The same issue happened to me. I tried to reinstall the complete software. Later both IPS and Safe Web got enabled only at application level. But in the backend, the browser web traffic is not intercepted by norton for scanning the website. I confirmed this by viewing the website SSL certificate. Previously, norton act as Man-in-the-middle and scan the website. At that time the website certificate will be changed on the run. It will display the certificate issuer as “norton” for all website I visited. But after this recent software update, the HTTPS inspection is not working as expected. Kindly help to fix it. Thanks.
Thanks for you immediate reply. Previously this has to work exactly as you shared. But now it is not working form me. Even the Norton Root Certificate in present in the Trusted Directory. But all the website are not passing through Norton SSL inspection both in Edge and Chrome. Not sure about the root cause. I tried reinstalling extension, browser, application; but no use.
Also In Norton application, under browser extensions, I don’t see the Safe Web extension status ? Is it common ?
Yep same issue. Pretty annoyed that I had to repair and just by chance saw this was disabled. Thanks for your post. Do better, Norton oh and STOP with all the damn nagging promos.
Norton Safe Web extension is not Norton 360 Safe Web engine.

The link you shared has the same content that we both are expressing. Safe web, technically operate by doing HTTPS inspection. Norton call it as HTTPS Scanning. You can find it under Security → Advance → Safe Web (HTTPS/QUIC/DoH Scanning). I was using those feature for many months. Except financial site, I make all websites to undergo HTTPS scanning for detecting threats. If it should work, the certificate reissuing has to happen in backend, just like the screenshot you shared. But now it is not working for me after the Update. Anyway fine, hope Norton team look into this and let me wait for any bug fix in upcoming updates. Thanks for your messages.

Thanks for the info
Non of them in support could fix my issue. I don’t know if they really understand the problem, or if there is proper guidance or escalation from them. My concern is, do this application with safe web future really decrypt all HTTPS website that I visit and scan for infected website (or) it is only scanning HTTP Website, blocking Malicious FQDN & IP etc. at basic level.
And regarding support - Every time support accesses our machine remotely, they simply toggle the safe web option, toggle and reinstall the browser extension, or reinstall the application. These are basic tasks anyone can do. We expect them to provide more advanced troubleshooting.
Furthermore, it’s important to note that LogMeIn remote sessions can access the user’s file system in the background without requiring additional user permissions. This tool requests full system access, rather than granular, need-based access, which raises significant privacy concerns. The team should look into this matter seriously.
I have used Norton for many years, but I am now very unhappy with its reliability and support.
We have a pushed a microupdate to fix this issue. If you’re still seeing this issue, please run LiveUpdate and restart your system. Thank you.
