The Norton Tech Broke My PC

I have used Norton for almost 2 yrs. now and I prefer it to everyone else in the marketplace. A few days ago I was having an issue instaling Norton I.S. on an older machine with XP.  I couldn't get Avast removed to install Norton so I got tech support on the phone and the agent used logmein to access my PC.

The agent went through the computer and deleted a whole bunch of stuff, it was happening so fast I could barely keep up.  I'm no greenie, I own a webdesign and seo business and currently own nearly 50 websites of my own.  When the agent rebooted the computer we got a "blue screen" with a fatal error.  I restarted it in safemode with networking and the agent worked on it some more with the same result.  After several time doing this the agent told me that I needed to take it to a local tech to get it fixed!  Whoa... hold on a second.  This pc worked perfectly fine before this agent ran through it's programs and files deleting everything in sight.  Yes, it's an older PC and it was only used for checking email and using skype so I don't need a new machine for that.  Problem is that you can't use skype in safe mode with XP.

This is not my responsability to get this machine repaired, it's Norton's.  The machine worked before the agent broke it and I am not satisfied with the solution that the agent gave me. This isn't going to be on my dime, I didn't break the machine.  I got back with a second tech agent tonight and after he tried to fix it, he gave me the same answer.  This is not acceptable.  If I have to pay a local tech to repair this machine, I want some sort of compensation from Norton. I don't care whether you want to pay the bill for the repair or whether you give me Norton services, I will not have this repair coming out of my pocket.  My clients wouldn't accept that from me and I won't accept it either.  I know that you most likely aren't able to solve this issue, but you can forward this message to the right person.

Something you can try to get your system working again is to run the System File Checker.

Click on Start and type CMD in the search box. Right click on cmd.exe and click on Run as Administrator. Type 'sfc /scannow' without the quotes. This will check your Windows installation and try to correct any errors it finds.

If that does not work, you can run a Repair install of XP. Hopefully you have or can get a copy of XP with SP3.

Ignore my message that sorts that out for me. Even though I can see what looks like happened (maybe) and why it is happening.

Thread dealt with.

The tech who broke it then tried to fix it.  When it couldn't be fixed I was told "too bad, you need to find a local tech to fix it".  The next day I got a secind Norton tech to look at it and after he worked on it for a bit he told me to find a local tech to fix it.  I didn't break the machine... the tech did.  I should not have to pay to get it fixed!

I want Norton to take responsability and fix my PC.  Norton tech broke it and it worked perfectly before the tech logged in and deleted things.  If you can't fix it then I want some sort of compennsation because I will need to get a new PC.  I have been without it for almost a week with no resolution from Norton.  Can someone please connect me with a person who can resolve this?  Thank you!

I'll try it Peter.  I don't have a copy of XP to reinstall so that's out of the question, but I'll try the other suggestion.  Thanks!

Good Luck with Peterweb,

Although I doubt a Repair / reinstall of Windows will work as that reinstalls Windows around 3rd party programs / drivers and user accounts

Seeing safe Modes appear to be loading usually means a couple of things.

But good luck with who stepped in.
