Thunderbird not working since Norton update

Since Norton update 16/12/24 Mozzilla Thunderbird will not receive emails and I cannot send emails through Thunderbird. The only message I get is when trying to send and email: Cannot connect to SMTP server. Error: 10060. If I uninstall Norton, Thunderbird works fine… I have turned off the Norton Firewall and I still have the same issue.

I am running the latest versions of Windows 11, Norton 360 and Thunderbird.

I have the same issue. Happened on the same date, 16 Dec 24. Apparently that’s the date of the Norton upgrade. Thunderbird stopped connecting to gmail, and also to another smtp server that I use. Turning off the firewall doesn’t help. Could someone from support please look into this? I’m starting to look at other security suites. I need my email to work.

I found it. Since the upgrade you have to disable one feature and then Thunderbird will work again:

Norton App → Security → Advanced Security → Email Protection: Disable it.

Norton, I don’t know what you’re thinking. Not sure what this “feature” is trying to accomplish, but you really should review the default settings so that our email clients don’t just stop working mysteriously.
