Thunderbird Security Exceptions

Since the last Norton 360 update I cannot send or receive emails via Thunderbird. Pop-up says Add Security Exception … The certificate is not trusted… Viewing the certificate shows it is generated by Norton Antivirus for SSL/TLS scanning. How do I fix it? Thunderbird is set as an allowed program in the firewall settings

Product & version number:? Can’t find this in the new look!!

OS details:Windows 10

I had the same message pop up when I opened Thunderbird after updating 360 to the new version 24.x.x.

What appears to be happening is the email security protection in 360 is affecting the connection to the email server. You need to Confirm Security Exception for that connection and your Thunderbird will work correctly again.

If you have multiple email accounts you monitor in Thunderbird, you will have to do this for each email account.

Though the “Permanently store this exception” option has a flag, I have to do that every time I open Thunderbird after a new OS start: it’s quite annoying…

You mention the “Permanently store this exception” has a flag. Is there a check mark as shown in the image above? That is what you need to have the setting stick.

Yes, the check mark for “Permanently store this exceptionis active” is like in the pic above (active), but I need to “confirm the security excpetion” evrery time i run TB after an OS reboot, why?

yes, me too. And accepting the certificates does not permanently solve the problem. In the end I had to disable Email scanning for incoming and outgoing emails in the Norton settings. I’ll re-enable them after Norton fixes this issue.

I’m also waiting for the update. Please Norton fix this ASAP.

Everyone. We are now on version 25.2 so it has been more than long enough for this to have been corrected. Are any of you on that version and has it corrected the issue if so? TIA.

Well, I have Norton 25.2.9898 (build 25.2.9898.915) and use Thunderbird (v128.8.0esr (64-bit)) with 3 different email accounts and it works fine for me. I did get those exception-messages a while back but think I just ‘accepted’ them and clicked the box that appeared and have not had the issue since. Could be I have been lucky but anyhow this is my experience.
