Time Limits Just Don't Work

I've posted before and gone through all of the other threads on Time Limits and they simply do not work.  My son has a limited access account, it requires a password, I have set the tamper resist flag, I run Norton 360, all ofthe other things but yet here I sit again with an email from 9:49 am that says his 1 hour time limit was reached and then a series of emails after that running up to at this point 12:54 pm indicating that he's hit a blocked site.  It's always the same site that Mine Craft tries to hit but that's not the point.  Why is he still able to use the machine?

I've even logged onto his account and used it one evening and watched time run out an just kept right on going.  Once I rebooted the machine and it came back up, I then tried to log on and was forced off but what is going to make him reboot.

How is my 10 year old son able to outwit the experts?  I'm honestly not even convinced yet that he is doing something to it.  I've tried for months to get this to work and at wits end.  He has his own account, it's tied correctly to the service, it has limited permissions, and yet it rarely, if ever, enforces a time limit or curfew.

Does anyone else have this problem?  I run Win 7.

Hi Jst1MorCast,

You mentioned "I've even logged onto his account and used it one evening and watched time run out an just kept right on going.  Once I rebooted the machine and it came back up, I then tried to log on and was forced off but what is going to make him reboot".

When the account reaches the curfew time, the child should be able to log in and logged out of his/her account three more times.  The PC doesn't need to be rebooted, then he/she wouldn't be able to log back to the PC without the email address and password of the Norton Online Family account.

How many times were you able to log back to the PC?

Thanks,

Katie

My son figured out when he gets prompted to "Add More Time" because his time ran out, he simily starts a Windows shutdown.  This begins to shutdown all applications.  Then he then simply cancels the Windows shutdown and then keeps playing without time limits.  The time limit feature is very easily bypassed unfortunately and needs to be far most robust.

What Operating system is being used on your child's computer?

My son's has windows 7 and I created an admin user for me to control it and set up a log in for him. In the Admin account I can set time controls on his user account, and the computer automatically locks him out as soon as limits are reached.

Try to find the parental controls on the computer they usually work better for time controls than an external program.

Hi ShaneMercer,

I'll report this to the team.  Please let us know what Operating System is running on the machine, so we can try to reproduce the issue.

You are probably aware of this, if for some reason the child stays on the machine during curfew time, the program still monitors and blocks the websites if it should be blocked, and the program lets the parents know the child has stayed on the machine when he or she is not allowed.

Thanks,

Katie

I was never forced to log off and so I never logged back on.  I watch timme run out and just kept right on goinng.  the only tie I was forced to log off was after the reboot and then went back to his account.  Then is was working.  I think the other post here may have it in that he may be doing a shutdown to override.  I say that because I could not just "log off" form his account.  Nothing would happen when I would hit log off and it appeared like a shutdown was in progress.  I didn't think of it as anythign at the time but wondering if that is the problem.  He has absolutely no problem exceeding his time limit and it doesn't even interupt him.

Hi Jst1MorCast,

Do you get any warning message, like the message saying you have five more minutes left.... before the allowed time is up?  Are you able to recreate it consistently?

Thanks,

Katie
