I've got Internet Security 2011 on 3 pc's I use for my business, the rest are the kids and my inlaws next door and they run Avast and AVG free.
All seems to be working correctly etc apart from my internet usage has jumped up, before I used to be well in with my 20 gig a month, like 7 - 10 gig used in a month, this is with my kids computers and the 2 Xboxes on the network as well.
Now I'm running over my 20 gig limit and while it's not that expensive to go over I'm a little concerned when I'm using over 1 - 2 gigs a day sometimes.
This weekend I went away so I turned off the computers with Norton on and today I checked on my ISP account page how much was used over those days the usage was down to a few hundred mb (Saturday was around 50mb), while not conclusive it's pointing to Norton using the bandwidth.
So is there a way in Norton to check how much it's downloading (the usage is nearly all download) or is therer a free program to check on the network traffic to trace the usage to the relevent device?
My network does have a lot of devices on it, upto 6 pc's, 2 Xboxes and 4 Android phones. All these have been on for a long time before the jump in usage.
Hope someone can give me a few pointers to help me trace this as I'm not happy if it's Norton using it all!
As I know the average virus definition download + every other download procedures should be ≤100MB / machine per day. If the machines are connected to the net all the time I would say virus defs are under 40-50MB, or less... Plus there are some extra download data because of the communication between the program and the Symantec servers during Live Update check ups and file scanning mechanisms (cloud technology).
Thanks, is there anywere in Norton to check this figure? I know the new version is meant to have a bandwidth restiction feature so I was wondering if it was a problem with 2011downloading too much.
I think I may have found a program to monitor network traffic but it doesn't destinguish between local and internet so I'm still searching.
there's a special update way in the product, it's called Smart Definitions. This was designed for users who have really slow connections (like modem), and because of this it downloads less data.
You can reach the feature in Settings -> Computer Settings -> Smart Definitions, and turn it on. At the first time (if I remember well) it will download a bit larger data (~40-50MB).

Are they on your network connections? If not hey won't be using your bandwidth surely?
I hope they are not running Norotn, Avast and AVG all on the same computer -- that's a recipe for trouble to have more than one interactive security progam running.
