I would like to transfer my web logins and passwords stored in Identity Safe located on an old hard drive from a computer running WinXP Pro to a new computer running Win7 Pro. I have the old hard drive hooked up as an E: drive on my new computer. Unfortunately I did not backup my Identity Safe on the old computer. Please help!
the Identity Safe passwords and logins are on my old hard drive. I can't find the executable listed in the KB on my old hard drive in the Norton Internet Security folder. is there another folder that this executable is contained in? I reinstalled Norton Internet Security on my new Win7 Pro machine and have the hard drive from my old WinXP Pro machine with NIS on it attached to my new machine as drive E:
Hi,
What is the version of NIS on your old XP machine? If its NIS 2012, you wouldn't find that exe as it would be available only with 2011 and lesser versions of NIS.
Try this option:
Locate the Norton folder in the program data, since its XP check here : C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS 19.x.x.x\IdentitySafeDataStore\S-1-5-21-3912023006-996938927-274505171-1006
In this path you will find two files "IDDStore & IDDStore_Bak" copy these two files from your old hard drive and replace it in the same location on your new Win 7 machine. It would ask for the password when you open the identity safe from the product just enter the identity safe password of the old hard drive machine.
Let me know if that worked.

Hi,
The version of NIS on my old hard drive is 2012. I can't find the directory you last wrote me about on my old hard drive. I am running the 64 bit version of Win7 Pro on my new machine and it is also running NIS 2012. I hope this information helps! Also, are some of these directories you mentioned in your last response hidden?
Thanks again for your help!

HI Testadoora,
Yes some of these directories are hidden by default. So be sure to unhide the directories as needed.
And for NIS 2012 actually you need to look for filenames called "IDDStor2.dat" and "IDDStor2.dat.bak".
On your Windows 7 computer the path is actually different and some of the directories are also hidden by default. You can start by creating a new vault on your Windows 7 computer and then start at the following path and search for the same file as mentioned above.
C:\ProgramData\Norton
When you find these files on your Windows 7 computer you will need to overwrite them with a copy of the files which you retrieved from your Windows XP drive. NOTE that NIS will not allow you to overwrite these files by default so you must first turn OFF Norton Product Tamper Protection in NIS on your Windows 7 computer. This setting is found in Settings > General > Product Security > Norton Product Tamper Protection.
Once you have copied the above files over, be sure to turn Norton Product Tamper Protection back ON.
Please let us know how it goes.
Best wishes.
Allen
