This is a bit different. I purchased a "boxed"(3 licenses, CD or maybe DVD?) version of NIS 2009, a while ago. I recently got around to installing it on my 10 year old son's PC. Installed it, did the free upgrade to NIS 2011, everything cool, one out of the three licenses activated. I have since built him a newer PC and transferred the harddrive image (Ghost) from the old PC to the newer on. Now the newer PC has not yet been connected to the Internet. Finally my question is, once I uninstall NIS 2011 from the old PC while it is connected to the internet, that should reclaim the one used license. Should I then just connect the NEW PC to the Internet, fire up NIS and do something like a Live Update. Will I have to reactivate the version of NIS 2011 that is on the NEW PC because of the ghosted harddrive or should I completely uninstall / reinstall and reupgrade and activate?
I'll give it a shot
Thank you Hugh!

Hello Ed4609
If you do have a problem with the program, it may be due to you installing 2011 directly over 2009. We usually recommend an uninstall of the older product first. Let us know how you made out. Thanks.
Everything seemed to go fine. I first uninstalled NIS 2011 from the old system while online, then brought the new system online with NIS 2011 already loaded, more on that in a second. Regarding uninstall of 2009 and then install 2011, when I originally upgraded from 2009 to 2011 on my old system, I believe there was a link / icon / popup which informed me I was eligible for the upgrade. I just clicked on it and pretty much everything was automated, if memory serves me correctly. It downloaded NIS 2011 and may have done an uninstall, reboot and install of NIS 2011, I'm not sure. At any rate, One my NEW system, NIS 2011 did ask for a reactivation and then was happy. I guess my only question(s) is, how do I verify I still have 2 activations left and are the 2 activations / installs still eligible for NIS 2011 upgrades?
Thanks for all the help,
Ed
Hello Ed4609
You can verify how many activations you have left by logging into www.mynortonaccount.com That should show how many acitvations are left. If it is incorrect, you can contact customer support for free via the chat program
http://us.norton.com/support/contact/contact.jsp?pvid=cs
This is the link for US/Can. If you need a different location, please consult your local Symantec site for the local free chat customer support link.
The 2 activations of computers in your household will be eligilbe for the same upgrade to 2011. The countdown of the remaining time will be the same as the first computer you installed it on. You wil be able to upgrade to 2011 as long as your subscription is current.
Hope this explains it. Please come back and let us know how you made out. Thanks.
