Hi Nicnic,

I would suggest updating to NIS 2009 as that may help with your issue.

You can confirm your eligibility for the FREE update here at the Norton Update Center.

Yep, please upgrade and do it fast. Than download the updates and run a full scan. Please come back here so we know if that works. If that doesn't work we will figure out a new solution

Hi,

I have norton internet security 2006, and on a full system scan it has detected the Trojan.GIFrame virus. The Symantec instructions say to disable the System Restore function, update the virus definitions and then re run the virus scan.  I have tried this now numerous times and also tried re-boots in between and switching the System Restore back on and off to see if it over writes itself, all with no luck.  I am running windows XP SP2.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Nic

You are eligeble for all updates during your subscription period.

I'll jump on the Fishing Boat and say please Upgrade as soon as you can.

If a Full System Scan in Normal Mode does not work, please do one in Safe Mode.  If that still does not work, follow the Removal instructions.  Removal instrctions for Trojan.GIFrame: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2008-082500-0801-99&tabid=3.

Good news, followed the advice and upgraded to the newest version of NIS.  Ran the full system scan and again it found the virus.  It did manage to remove the virus too, so all looks good.

Cheers for the advice - I didn't realise that free upgrades were available.

Nic

You might want to do a Full System Scan in Safe Mode to be sure.

When running a Scan, make sure you are Dis-connected from the Internet because, if you remain Connected:

- you may get re-infected, even when your Norton Product says that it has been Removed.

- the Internet Threat may use Anti-Removal techniques.

Hey Nicnic,

That is good news to hear!

One great part about being a Norton customer is that you are offered updates to the newest version at no charge.

Best wishes and be sure to drop by the Forums to see what's going on.
