Trouble installing Norton 360

I recently bought a new Windows 8 laptop which came with an installed 60 day trial version of Norton Internet Security. I already have a multi-computer account for Norton 360 and would like to switch to that rather than use the trial version already on the laptop. I tried downloading the Norton Removal tool as well as N360S300EN, running the Norton Removal Tool 3 times with restart, and then running N360S300EN, but I got a popup informing me that there were compatibility issues and I wasn't able to install it. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Hi, I'm trying to install Norton 360 on my Aunt's laptop and I'm having a similar issue to the "computer doesn't even 'see' disk" thread. The difference is that I put the disk in and it went through the whole process of uninstalling the old version, then it needed to restart, and now nothing happens when I put the disk in. It probably doesn't help that I'm used to using Windows XP, and this thing has Vista and I can't find my way around it...! Anyway, I now feel that I've made a right mess of things, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I did indeed remove the disk - a little voice in the back of my head piped up with "but won't it not start with a disk in it?" So thank you, everything you said looks perfectly straightforward and easy even for me to follow (it's a real case of the visually impaired leading the blind with me and my Aunt) and I will give it a go as soon as I can get back down to her place.

Whoops, replies don't go immediately below the post that they relate to.... ok.

viswaanathan_98 - thank you, I had actually in my desperation tried putting in a music CD and a DVD and nothing happened then either, so I was wondering if there was something wrong with the drive. And again, I didn't have a clue what to do about it, so that'll be an added bonus if I can solve that!

Hi,

Have you looked in your device manager to see if there are any problems being reported for that drive?

Thanks everyone, Phil_D's step-by-step guide pretty much did it. I wasn't prompted to enter the product key, and ended up with "Subscription status: 13 days remaining". I clicked on "renew", then entered the product key and away to go. Hooray!

The DVD drive works just the way it should when a disk is inserted, and I now know to use the device manager to heck it, so there's something to treasure for the future :womanvery-happy:

You can try this:

If you use Identity Safe for your Logins, please back it up (export) the data so it can be Restored (Imported) after you install a copy of N 360.

Please remove the trial copy of NIS you have installed, using the Control Panel uninstall via Programs & Features.

Download and run the Norton Remvoal Tool once and reboot after it is completed. The NRT can be found here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us&lg=english&ct=united+states&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home&entsrc=redirect_pubweb

Loginto your Norton Account (on the new system) and click on the Yellow Download button - that should begin the download of N 360, install it and activate it for you.

Once installation is complete, open N 360 and manually Run LiveUpdate as many times as necessary for it to respond "no more updates found". If a reboot is requested, reboot and then continue to Run LiveUpdate until it responds "no more updates found" and then reboot one last time.

Once totally updated, don't forget to Restore/Import your ID Safe data if required.

Please keep us posted.

Thank you so much for your help. Once I have removed the trial version is it safe to login to my Norton account and download Norton 360 since there will be no firewall or antivirus active, or should I turn on Windows Defender and Firewall even though this might interfere with the installation of 360? It just worries me a little to be active on the internet even for a short while without an antivirus product.

Thank you again.
