Turn off firewall

I want to turn off the firewall. None of the how-tos I found work. One says,
1. Start Norton 360.
2. Click Task & Settings at the top of the main menu.
3. On the Task & Settings menu click Advanced Settings.
4. On the Advanced Settings screen click Firewall Protection Settings.
5. On the Firewall Protection Settings screen, click the Firewall Program Rules tab.

First off, there is no “Tasks & Settings” at the top. There is a “gear” icon in the left “My Norton” sidebar. Clicking that shows no ‘Advanved Settings’. All I see is ‘Product Tour’, ‘Launch View’, ‘VPN’, ‘Software Updater’, ‘Notifications’.

Another how-to says:
2 In the Norton product main window, click Settings.
3 In the Settings window, click Firewall.

There is no “Firewall” option in ‘Settings’.

How do I do this?

Hello @OHPRS_Tech

Norton 360 v22 or v24?
Windows Admin user account?

sounds like you’re Norton 360 v22

Norton 360 systray menu > Disable Smart Firewall
Norton 360 systray menu > Open Norton 360 > Settings > Firewall

Care to share why you want Norton Smart Firewall = off?

Turn Norton Firewall on or off [here]
DocID: v64908971 = v22

I do not have Norton is my systray. I tried your link suggestion earlier. I do not have ‘Firewall’ under my Settings link. The only options I see are as I listed in the first paragraph of my post.

I’m trying things to solve a problem. We use the SonicWall firewall and connect to domain workstations using RDC and SonicWall’s NetExtender VPN client. We can connect to one particular workstation only from within the domain. It won’t connect from outside the domain This problem is recent and is the only computer having the problem. When I check the firewall settings on all the other workstations it says, “For your security, some settings are managed by your system administrator”. This computer says, “These settings are being managed by vendor application Norton 360.” So, I’m trying to turn that off to see it it makes a difference.

Norton 360 v22 or v24?

Sorry, no notion how SonicWall firewall runs along side Norton 360 nor any SonicWall.

Maybe, you’re looking at v22 My Norton Dashboard > Settings
If you are looking at My Norton Dashboard > find Device Security > click Open > Settings > Firewall

No notion why you do not have Norton 360 systray button…may be hidden

When I read “Advanced Settings”. I’m thinking “Advanced Security” v24.

When I read "All I see is ‘Product Tour’, ‘Launch View’, ‘VPN’, ‘Software Updater’, ‘Notifications’. I’m thinking you’re Norton 360 v22
When I read “I do not have ‘Firewall’ under my Settings link”. I’m thinking you’re v22 looking at v22 My Norton Dashboard.

Hello @OHPRS_Tech
Edit: Norton 360 v22 does have , as I now recall, an Advanced Settings window?

Maybe, you are Norton 360 v22 and maybe you’re looking at v22 My Norton Dashboard > Settings.
If you’re looking at My Norton Dashboard > find Device Security > click Open > Settings > Firewall

Hello @OHPRS_Tech

found v22 pics

I don’t know what version I have. There is no “about” option on the opening dialog. Perhaps on some sub-dialog, but one shouldn’t have to search through menus for the version. The 1st image posted by bjm on post #5 looks right. There is plenty of open real estate on this dialog, especially in the “My Norton” black panel at left. why not put the version right there? It’s amazing how many different steps I’ve found to get to the Firewall settings and that none of them actually worked for me. A version number shown somewhere might help that and would have cut down a number of posts on this topic. Anyway, back to my issue.
bjm’s 2nd image is not what I get when I click the Device Security Open button. Also, the drop-down menu on the Open button has nothing to do with what you get when you click it – another point of confusion. Here’s what I did to get to the Firewall settings:

Device Security - click ‘Open’ > click ‘Security’ > click ‘Advanced’. Now I get the on/off slider for the firewall along with sliders for other settings.

I tried turning off the firewall (and rebooting). It didn’t help. As well, I was wrong about other workstations having “For your security, some settings are managed by your system administrator”. Those computers were non-user hosts with no Norton. All user workstations with Norton had “These settings are being managed by vendor application Norton 360”, and I can remote connect to all of them just fine. So, I don’t think this is a Norton issue. I’m going to open a ticket with SonicWall and get them involved.

Thanks for you patience and help.
