Absolutely couldn't agree with you more, just to add to that, half of the popups concerning advertising on the internet have a sexy girl or something on that. This advertising feature that I have enabled in Internet Security's Parental Controls works so nicely, I don't have to worry about children or even myself being distracted by advertisements that mean nothing to me.
Anyways, I have read countless posts on this. It doesn't matter if this was a design feature that Norton specifically implemented for specific reasons. We as a customer should have the right to turn off the alerts if we so choose to do so, no? I am certain that adding a couple of lines of code into an update shouldn't be a difficult thing to do. Also, the advertisement blocking feature is probably the most useful and important of all of the parental controls, there is absolutely no way of using the internet without it blocking stuff every two seconds with this feature enabled. Does Symantec really deem it necessary to have these things pop up in your face every two seconds? As in the previous post, the person makes a good point, we should be able to have it pop up on a timer, once every ten minutes, once every 20, or even just never at all! I mean, we are the customer, and I tell ya, having porn on your computer is embarrassing to say the least, having a content blocker is also embarrassing, I would truly appreciate a feature that enables you to make it look like it is not even there at all.
The children that use my computer are too young to know what is on the internet, the adults know very well what is on the internet, it is not necessary to display any alert at all to either of these two groups of people, they both have no need for an alert. Why does a 30 year old friend of mine need a notification that he is doing something that I don't want anyone to do on my computer? Why does a 4 year old need a notification about an advertisement when he or she can't even read?
Just annoying and distracting, that's all it is. I have read dozens of posts along the same line, every one says the same thing. And Symantec says they will consider it, which of course means that they might think about thinking about the topic if it happens to come up in a meeting someday. I need this feature right now as it bothers me, and I don't want to explain to my friends that I have put a content blocker on my computer because I don't want them browsing for porn when they visit from overseas and are living with us for 2 or more weeks.
This feature might be appropriate for a 8-14 year old, other than that, what's the point? Your missing a whole other group of people.
Annoying, distracting, ruins the experience of safely browsing the web. Also... every.... single... YouTube video .... every... single... 2 seconds... now has a pop-up... man o man... This is a stupid conversation, why isn't this feature available?
