I am using NIS 2009 and iTunes 8.2.0.23. When I try to access the iTunes store I get a message saying "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network connection timed out." When I disable Smart Firewall in NIS 2009 I am able to access the iTunes store without problems. I have also gone into Internet Settings >Smart Firewall > Program Control in NIS 2009 and set the access for iTunes and iTunes helper to "Allow", but still cannot access the iTunes store unless I disable the firewall altogether. How can I configure NIS so that I can access the iTunes store?
If that does not resolve the issue, then please allow the categories "Entertainment & Music" and the "Technology". You need to uncheck the boxes "Entertainment & Music", and "Technology" under the Web Settings of child and click on UPDATE SETTINGS.
Once house rules are updated on child's PC, check the issue again. If issue persists, please let us know following:
1. How does iTunes Store is accessed? What does child do to access iTunes Store?
2. Do you see any error or information message from NSM? If yes, what is the text of the message.
3. Does disabling NSM resolves the issue? Note that it is a just a troubleshooting step.
I added apple.com and both the music & entertainment and technology are unblocked. She is still not able to access the iTUnes store. She tries to access the iTunes stor from her Itunes Icon, from the list of options on the top, she selects HOME and it is supposed to access the itunes store. However, she now receives a message, “itunes count not connect to the itunes store. the network timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active. then try again.” I know that the connection is ok because she is able to access other websites. Also other laptops that are on the same network are able to access the itunes store this same way- the only difference is that her computer recently had the norton safety minder installed. Since that was installed she has not been able to access it. She is using Windows Vista and Internet explorer. thank you
When you double-click iTunes icon on Desktop and the application gets opened, there are three ways to access iTunes Store -- 1) The Home icon under top menu 2) The option "Home" which appears in the drop-down list under the tab "Store" in top menu 3) By clicking STORE>>iTunes Store in the left pane.
While testing with iTunes 8, I am able to access iTunes Store by all three methods described above, provided apple.com is whitelisted or the two categories I mentioned previously ("Entertainment & Music", and "Technology") are unchecked.
If your daughter still facing the issue even after you tried solutions mentioned above then probably house rules are not updated on her PC. Please click Norton Safety Minder icon in system tray of her machine and click on "Update House Rules". Check the issue again after a minute and if issue persists please send me a screenshot of "House Rules" on her PC.
