Unable to delete backup folders

Unable to delete backup folders.

Norton 360 ver 5.1.0.29

Windows 7 64 bit

 

I enter the managed backup sets.  I select the backup set containing the folders.  I select delete folder option.  I place a check mark next to the folders I want to delete from backup set. Then the process starts, but soon I get this error message: An error occurred while removing files some of the  files you selected may not have been removed.

 

It appears as if NOTHING was deleted.  Rebooted computer, retry.  Same failure.  The backup is to an external disk drive.  Tried different folders, same failure.

Any ideas?
