Unable to uninstall Norton 360 premium or access Norton settings

Issue abstract: Unable to access Norton 360 premium settings or uninstall application

Detailed description: Basically, I have no access for my Norton 360 premium settings. Whenever I try to click on settings, there will be an authorisation window that pops up requesting for a password. I recall putting in a password in the past but when I have tried all the password that I normally use but none is working. Therefore, I have been trying to uninstall the application and then reinstalling it, hoping that this problem can be removed.

Product & version number:

OS details:
|Edition|Windows 11 Pro|

|Installed on|‎22-‎Apr-‎23|
|OS build|22631.4460|

What is the error message you are seeing?
Basically, there is no error but there is a consistent Authorisation window that pop up whenever I try to click on the settings or when I uninstall the Norton 360 App., without the password there is nothing I can do with Norton 360 application.

Hello @Kim_Poon
Did you try Norton Removal tool > Remove only → Remove ? https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v60392881

Error: “The password is incorrect” appears when changing settings here

Note: the reference to Advanced Options may be carryover from earlier NRnR tool version.

Already tried that removal tool. Still the same requesting for the password.

Remove only → Remove ?

Yes, remove only. The Safe mode option I tried also not using the remove tool but just rebooting Win 11 under safe mode and trying to remove the Norton 360 Appl, still unsuccessful as the request for password still there. I tried both safe mode with network connection and safe mode without network connection both mode also unsuccessful.

Hi there,

Thank you for your recommendation. I finally managed to remove the Norton 360 premium after choosing to reboot to Safe mode first then during safe mode continue with the removal of the application. Now, I encountered another problem. Foundout that my Norton 360 premium that normally come together with Norton Family now is no longer applicable. Basically, when I tried to do a fresh installation of Norton Family on my child’s computer it states that the norton family that I download from Norton website is no longer compatible with the latest Norton 360. I don’t know what is happening with Norton but their products are not really user friendly anymore.

Thanks for warning us not to use Settings → Password

What’s your Norton 360 version #?

and you tried Parental Control → Activate?

Hi Bjm guru,

I have been using Norton Family for more than 3 years, I have know how to install norton family which is by downloading the norton family application via parental control after I login my.norton website.

From the screen capture that I have included, you can see that parental control is part of features included in Norton 360 Premium.

Here is another screen capture when I downloaded the Norton Family:

After downloading the NF installation files, when I tried to install the application, the following error appeared:

It seems that the latest version of Norton 360 is not compatible with the existing Norton Family. Not sure why Norton can rollout an updated Norton Internet Security Suite without doing any backward compatibility, or there should be a new version Norton Family but that version is not given to existing Norton 360 deluxe or premium customer but for paying customer who got Norton Family standalone without Norton 360.

Anyway, I have already raised a case to Norton to get them to findout why the installation of Norton family is failing. Hope to hear from them within these 2 days.

You’re running Norton 360 v24.x?
You’re running standalone Norton Family?

Hi Bjm,

Here is the Norton 360 version that I am using:

I have tried to re-install the Norton Family again and to capture the screenshots of each stage.

Here is my Norton Dashboard and by the way I am using my child’s device:

After clicking on ‘Review Activity’ in Parental Control, this is what is captured.

After clicking on Child’s Tab with exclamation mark:

After clicking on ‘Add Device’:

After clicking on ‘Add new device’:

After clicking on ‘Child’s Name’:

After clicking on Download NF:

After opening the NF_installer.exe file, windows will request for approval from parent, whereby I have to enter my windows password to allow the installation. Shortly after approval Norton Download Manager will appear then straightaway, the Error message pops up. See below:

I see the main difference between your installation and mine is that I don’t go through the registration of a new device, therefore I don’t see the ‘Register Device’ stage and setup required.

Appreciate your assistance to test out with similar scenario, whereby we need a device that has already been register then Norton Family is removed then re-installed again.

Hello @Kim_Poon

Note: I do not run Norton Family…my fwiw ~ as test: was on machine that never had Norton Family installed. My Norton Family install did prompt Register Device/Add Computer.

Note: I do recall Norton Family needs to be removed before removing Norton 360.

Note: after my fwiw ~ as test: I removed Norton Family & Norton Family extension and Norton Family account.

Uninstall Norton Family from your device here

Hello I try all the hints that I read here, but the result is the same. The installation failed on the other PC. Norton Family is active on the old PC from my son. Insert a additional PC is not possible at the moment. It will be nice, if you have any hint or solution for me. Thanks

What’s your Windows OS?
What’s your Norton 360 version number?
any Norton Family remnants left over from a prior NF install?
did you try uninstalling Norton 360 → scour File Explorer for Norton remnants … and then try installing Norton Family?

Did you try Norton Remover tool → Reboot to Safe mode?

Oh okay…so, you tried Norton 360 uninstall via Windows &or Norton Remover tool → Remove only?
my uninstall process fwiw ~ after Norton uninstall + machine Restart (not Shut down) → scour File Explorer for remnants & run CCleaner reg cleaner (with back up registry) + machine Restart (not Shut down)

Note: No idea whether my clean uninstall process will help your scenario.

I’ve sorta reproduced (similar) scenario. I’ve installed → uninstalled Norton Family.
