Unable to upgrade

With the trouble I've had with the SafeWeb icons, I downgraded to the Standard Edition of N360v6.  All was running great, even the icons were back.  So I right-clicked the Norton icon in the System Tray and clicked Check for New Version as I had had good results upgrading this way before.

All seemed to go well and when asked, I restarted.  This is where my latest problem began.  On restarting, N360 would not appear on screen, so after waiting and waiting, I pushed the Windows button and located N360 and right-clicked the program when Windows Explorer froze.  I can move my pointer around, but if I move it near the System Tray, or near the Start Menu I only see the spinning circle.

Update

Whenever I try to start N360 I get a pop-up saying Windows Explorer is not responding.  I can Restart the program, Close the program, or Wait for the program to respond.  I've been waiting for around 10 minutes or more already.

Any suggestions?

Trying to uninstall from Windows Control Panel and now on screen shows Initializing Norton 360 please wait.  This has been on screen with no change now for another 10 minutes!

Have you tried a full sytem shut down? Not just a restart.

I went through the whole process from start to finish again.

Two things I did differently this time were;

  1.  Completely updated v6, restarting where required, until no more updates were available before upgrading to v20.
  2.  Waited!  This time I did not try opening Norton 360 and it looked for several minutes that v20 wasn't going to open, but it did eventually.  Restarted, updated and restarted one more and -

Everything is now up and running.  I urge anyone who is upgrading to just sit tight, be patient and wait for Norton 360 to do it's thing.

One other thing that I noticed was the downloader was very new.  Please see the following image for details.
