Hello. Tonight, I noticed some unusual activity on NIS security history. First of all, I noticed nearly 50 entries of Unauthorized access blocked (Access Process Data) with a medium severity rating. The file name it lists is C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\LSM.EXE for all of them. I scanned the file with norton, but there were no problems with it.
Secondly, I noticed there was an entry that said "User logged in" the second all this started, but no one was logged on and there's no evidence of anyone being logged on and there's no entry afterward of "User logged off". Is any of this anything to be concerned about? Thanks.
Ok, I posted the situation on a couple of their forums. I've also checked the file and it doesn't seem to be where it's not supposed to. Also, the activity hasn't happened again, if it makes any difference.

Hi,
Stick with just one of the removal forums. Too many people working on the problem only confuses the matter and can cause them to withdraw support.

Yeah, I just meant I posted it once on some of the individual websites. Sorry. I should have spelled it better.
I just have one question. What do you mean by “The balance of the activity”? Is the fact that it appeared so often reason for concern?

Hi,
If it isn't causing any other problems then it isn't as bad as it could be. You still needs trained help to get your system cleaned up.

LSM.exe is a WIndows Process, Local Session Manager. It is attempting to access Norton's process data and Norton Product Tamper Protection is preventing it from doing so - Norton does not allow any outside agent to access its files or processes. So what you are seeing is perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned about. Whenever you see "unauthorized access blocked" in your Norton history logs, it is a Product Tamper Protection event and is harmless as long as the "actor" is something that is supposed to be on your system, such as LSM.exe. Tamper Protection has nothing to do with malware detection and its log entries should not be interpreted as signs that your PC is infected.
