I'm running NIS 2011 on Windows VIsta, and ever since an update several months ago, I started having an issue with one of my programs. I contacted the publisher and they advised it was due to my ports being blocked. I need to unblock ports 80, 443, 18120 and 18060. I have repeatedly seen in my history were it keeps blocking port 80. I've never really had to try and modify Norton before and and just let it do it's own thing, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hello amiller1776
Welcome to the Norton Community
Here is some information as to why you may find that port 80 is being blocked and the same probably holds true for port 443. Have you tried adding the program to Network settings, smart firewall, program control and try adding the program and then ok out of it. Maybe that will help rather than opening up those listed ports all the time.
Hi amiller1776,
What program are you having the issue with? It can get rather messy and complicated if you start creating your own firewall rules, as they can have unintended effects on network connectivity if not done correctly. You are better off letting Norton handle things. Go to Norton Network Settings and click Configure[+] for Program Control. FInd the name of your program in the list and make sure the Access permission is set to "Auto," or "Allow." If it is already showing "Auto" make sure the program is not running, click the program name to highlight it, click the "Remove" button and OK your way out. When you next start the program, Norton will restore the entry and recreate the rules governing its network access, and, it is hoped, the program will be able to connect with no problems. If the program still cannot connect out, there may be something else causing the issue other than the Norton firewall, such as a router, perhaps.
