Unexpected threat from a seemingly benign site

Today while researching a problem with my vacuum cleaner I clicked on the following URL:

http:// www(dot)mictaservice(dot)com/kirby_vacuums/q668081-install_new_foot_switch.  I was

immediately confronted with an error screen and an audio message warning that my computer was generating errors on their system.  I was to call a number listed on screen right away or they would be forced to lock my system.  I did not comply and was able to close the page right away and continue my work.  Another suspicious page in my History, which I did not navigate to, is:

https:// secureline-defender-issue564471(dot)website/4164/404/redfull/,

and perhaps connected to previous screen.  Just thought you should know and alert you to possible rouge sites to check out .  So far I have not detected any ill effects except I can no longer expand NIS, nor activate menu dialog by clicking on the System Tray icon.  This has happened in the past and usually goes away with a reboot.
