I had a conflict message from windows that another computer was trying to access the internet with the same IP. Address as my PC. I looked at Norton security map and found an Unknown Generic device was connected online with the same IP Address as my PC 192.XXX.X.X The device seems to be on my PC but has a completely different physical address. MY PC is 00.21.XX.XX.XX.XX and the generic device is 7C.XX.XX.XX.XX.XX.
Can anyone tell me what this device might be and also how I can find it on my PC, This happened only yesterday and until then My PC was the only one on this network.
I now feel unsure about using personal information on the intrenet until I can resolve this unknown issue.
Hi Phil_D Thanks for your help and sorry for the delay.
My router is set on WPA-PSK ? I think it is using protected set up not sure?
The reason I think this device is on my computer is my PC's name is Sheila PC, in Norton security map my PC comes up as Device name- Sheila PC using my laptops Atheros Adapter.
This unknown device in Norton security map comes up as Device name- Sheila PC using an unknown adapter, its physical address is totally different from my adapter.
One thing I have noticed is that it is offline most of the time but when it goes online my internet access goes down and I only have local access to my network, then after a while my internet comes back and my routers IP address has changed by one number at the end e.g.. 192.xxx.x.2 to 192.xxx.x3.
What I need to know is, is this a network conflict or is this some program connecting with with ill intent ?
I hope I have given you enough information if not please let me know.
Yes my son has an Xbox, By mac address do you mean Physical Address? Yes the Xbox has the same Physical address as this other device, are they one and the same?
