upgraded / symdaemon cpu running / reinstall doesn't start

1) norton says I can get a free upgrade so I tried that but nothing happened. checked forums found a round about means of remove/upgrade that I applied. Looked to be fine so I scheduled a scan for late evening.

2) in the morning, 7 hrs later, symdaemon was at 380% cpu and the fan was going. Tried multiple times killing it but it restarted automatically. it would interrupt restarted. turned off automatic scans and a popup showed repeatedly saying I'm not protected. after that was able to kill it off.

3) found the removal script, downloaded the installer which installed ok but now it won't start

All of these issues have shown up in the forums over the past number of months and Symantec has not posted a comprehensive answer to fix them. I'm thinking a means of removing all the pieces/parts then a new download.

I'm running a mbp 2012 running 10.11.3 . Not sure if providing diag/log info as symdaemon was talking to a Symantec IP address so you should already know you have a opportunity for customer satisfaction.
