When Norton Internet Security 2009 is finally released i plan to upgrade from Norton Internet Security 2008. But do i need to uninstall the older version or does one just replace the other
Good advice from PhilD as always -- I'd just add that if a clean install is recommended check to see if there is a way of saving your settings and especially things like the AntiSpam black/white lists you may have built up over time.
I got caught out on this when going from N360 V1 to V2 and I doubt I've got all the settings back yet!
Ah, I have been caught by the Great One! huwyngr is correct to point this out.
BEFORE upgrading use the Norton Migration Tool to save your antispam and parental control settings. But check carefully when NIS 2009 is released, there may be an updated tool released also.
Thank you, huwyngr - I guess I needed another cup of coffee!
I’ve always found it easier to ornament someone else’s work than to start from scratch …
Hi Phil, I upgrade from NIS2007 to NIS2009. I think I've upgrade the wrong way, thats let the NIS2009 auto remove my NIS2007 from my computer. I think now is working well, but will any problem occur?
Its best to uninstall NIS 2007 abd reboot. Then install NIS 2009. You can use the Norton Removal Tool also.
I see, can i remove my NIS2009 and reinstall back it now? Will my subscripsion still availble after i reinstall it back? If remove, even the LiveUpdate also need to be remove? Thanks.
Why do you want to uninstall NIS 2009?
Beacause I’ve upgraded wrongly and I’m afraid that some problem will occur in my NIS2009. The things u said below is it about the feature of NIS2009?
What things I said?
EVERYONE FREEZE!
Diesel's comment was written while you were writing your post, H. He didn't know you had already successfully installed the program or he wouldn't have made that comment.
You got your product installed and it's running well. There is no need to do anything else. Enjoy it.
Do you see any strange messages? If not, than it is installed safely
Oh, thanks then. I think it is working well.
Hi Phil, although I’ve installed NIS2009 successfully, but i still can spot out some malware or viruses during full system scan. The malware/viruses only detected by malwarebytes that u said. It was quite useful though. Just feeling odd that why NIS2009 unable to detect it.
Hi ckh890,
After installation did you perform a manual "Run LIve Update" to be sure Norton has the latest definitions?
Yes, I did. And i follow the steps to scan you gave to scan my computer. Just malwarebytes detect the malware. And i feel NIS2009 slows down my computer performance in some way. Anyway to make it better? Thanks.
Hi ckh890,
NIS 2009 should not slow down your computer; it should actually speed things up.
You mentioned in an earlier post that you installed 2009 "overtop" of your previous product - correct?
If so, please check this:
If you DO NOT use any other Norton products, go to Windows Add-Remove Programs and if present, uninstall Symantec LIve Update and Symantec Live Update Notifier. These are not required for 2009, but they may be required for other Norton Products such as 360, NSW, etc.
What are theses infections that Malware Bytes finds? Are you sure they are infections or are they false positives? Where are these infections? In your registry?
Malwarebytes found a bunch of cookies Norton didn't mention, on my computer. But it didn't find anything it said was serious.
On the other hand, two of those tracking cookies had entires in my registry! Is that possible? Wouldn't that make them viral?
