URGENT - Norton Internet Security 2011 - Removal prevents access to other websites - URGENT

Hi there :smileyhappy:

I have had to remove 'Norton Internet Security (NIS)' from my PC because I currently cannot afford to renew my subscription. Since my subscription expired, and assuming there is no other way to remove NIS properly, I used the Windows XP (SP3) Control Panel to remove it.

However, this is causing a very annoying problem in Internet Explorer 8 in that while I am able to surf successfully to some websites, I cannot surf to much needed websites like www.Microsoft.com and www.AVG.com and even the www.Symantec.com website.

The only thing that works is to reinstall the old NIS 2011 which is not acceptable because I am forced to use anti-virus freeware which cannot run together with Norton, from what I've read on the Internet.

Please indicate as a matter of urgency how this problem can be fixed.

Thanks in anticipation of a prompt and satisfying reply.

Regards.

Please download and run the Norton Removal Tool,  which is available at -  https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home

Dave.

Thanks Dave. Much appreciated.

You're Welcome!

Hi

Unable to goto security websites can also be a symptom Virus Infection, So please download and run the Norton power Eraser and let us know the files it is finding(do not fix things before getting a green signal from here).

Hi Subash

While the Norton Removal Tool is useful, it did not solve my problem. However, when I ran the 'Norton Power Erase' tool it discovered two files, viz. 01.tmp and dsdydsl.dll. I removed them and the problem is now resolved.

Thanks to both you and Dave for your help.

Regards.
