I recently downloaded and installed the newest version of 360 when my existing Norton subscription ended. Prior to that time I was able to plug an MP3 player or a camera into a USB port and they were both recognized by my computer (MP3 was also recognized by Rhapsody). Now however neither are recognized by the computer and Rhapsody does not recognize the MP3. This same USB port recognizes my flash drive (before and after new version). When I plug in or remove the MP3, I hear the tone indicating something has been added or removed. I have a Dell computer and am running Windows XP.

As PapauZ mentioned in earlier post, after connecting your MP3 player, go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk management. Check if your MP3 player is shown and it has a drive letter. If it is shown, right click on it and click Explore. Check if it opens Explorer window with MP3 player contents.
I have 3 MP3 players that are no longer recognized after downloading and installing Norton 360 Premier Edition. They do not show up in My Computer, Disk Management (shows C drive and external hard drive used for back up), or Network Security Map (only shows computer). I have plugged the player(s) into different USB ports with the same result. I have tried disabling Firewall and Auto Protect with the same result. I know that the USB port I'm using works with a flash drive (which can be found in My Computer). With respect to Rhapsody, I can still log on and download music even though my MP3 player is not recognized. I had Rhapsody installed with earlier versions of Norton products as well as the last version of 360.
Real Player suggested changing the setting in Norton Personal Firewall by:
1. Double-click the Norton Firewall icon in the system tray (The only Firewall option I have there is to enable or disable.)
2. Click the Configure button on the right side.
3. Click the Program Control tab at the top (mine says Program Rules).
4. Locate Rhapsody.
5. Highlight and click Remove.
6. Close Norton Personal Firewall
7. Launch and log in to Rhapsody (getting a prompt to grant access to the internet)
8. Choose Permit and check Always use this action.
I haven't done this because I'm not sure this is the problem. I am a plug-and-play computer person and I'm hoping I don't have to delve too far into the computer's inner workings.
Check how the mp3 players work when 360 is turned off. To turn off 360 go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, on the services list find Norton 360, and on the left top side click on Stop. It will shut down your norton product. Then put the drive in, and check how it works. If they working fine, it's something norton related and we have to check some things, if not, then that's nothing to do with norton. After the check restart the services to be protected!
Thanks for your response. I shut down Norton 360, plugged in the MP3 (actually two different ones) and still cannot see them anywhere. I guess my next choice is Sansa to see if they have a solution. Rhapsody suggested it was the device. I still am amazed that three devices would mess up at the same time. :-(
Thanks again. And, yes, I did restart Norton 360. :-)

If you put on that USB port(s) any other USB device: printer, scanner, pendrive, etc. Can they work properely, or they are having errors too? - If there are troubles: Are your USB ports on the mainboard? Maybe the chip has gone (I had the same a year ago) and you should by a PCI USB-card, and with that everything will be OK. - If there are troubles 2 :D: It can be that windows just gone crazy... maybe a reinstall would solve the issue - If others working OK: check in the Device manager the drivers when they are plugged in, when you found them delete the driver. Disconnect the device, then connect again, and windows should install the drivers again. Check how it works.
OK. A flash drive in the USB port shows up in all the right places and it works. So I skipped down to your third step: check the Device Manager, find the MP3, and delete the driver. At this point, on several attempts, I was having trouble installing the drivers again. So on my last try, I stopped Norton and proceded. My MP3 player is now visible everywhere, including Rhapsody. Oh, and yes, Norton is running again. :-)
Thank you so much for your help and patience. My next project is to figure out how to give you Kudos.
I tried the steps here - checking out the My Network settings and going into the Admin Tools / Computer Management / Disk Management w/ the camera conencted and it is not showing up as a drive. Tried stopping N360 as a service and
