Using a Debit Card to Purchase Norton

Is it safe to purchase Norton online using a debit card, or not?

Hi annual123 welcome to the Norton community  I  recommend that you do not use a debit card for any online internet purchase as if you have a problem with you purchase you may have problems getting you money refunded as when you pay for it using a debit card you do not have the same rules of a credit card has such as a 30day period if you are not happy with the product you bought you can have the credit card company help you out. If you are in the US or Canada you can find Norton software on sale for a good price at various office supply stores and other retail stores that sell Norton software and you can use your debit card at those stores and you have a local store that you can deal with if you have a problem

That, as always, will depend on where you are purchasing.

Be sure it is a reputable retailer/seller using a secure (https) web site.

I personally would not use a debit card since they are a bit more risky than credit cards, and if it falls into the wrong hands, can cause a lot of problems with your bank, bounced checks, etc. and more red-tape to contest, etc.

What you can do if you wish, however, is to purchase a pre-paid debit card at the grocery store, drug store, Walmart, etc., in an amount like $50, $100, etc. and then use that THAT card to make your online purchase.  That way you don't have to expose your own bank debit card, and your risk is minimized.  If there's any residual amount left on your pre-paid debit card afterward, you can just use it to buy some groceries, visit a restaurant, or buy a tank of gas then either destroy the card, or you can add additional amounts to it and use it somewhere else..

Some of the prepaid cards may have various service charges, so read carefully.  Especially if you leave a balance on there and don't use it for a while, the balance could dwindle.

I have gotten Symantec rebates before in the form of a prepaid debit card, I believe it was a Visa product, and it didn't have a service charge, or at least not if used in a certain time period, as I recall.  Just read the terms/conditions before purchasing the card.

Debit card is more risky.  IF you have a normal credit card, you can at least check with the credit issuing company to be sure your credit is currently active before making a credit-card purchase.  Also, if you want a credit card as part of your norton account and then make a payment to Symantec through your debit card instead, make sure that you very soon edit your norton account credit information to be sure it maintains your credit card data and not your debit card data.

I'm not certain that Norton accepts Debit Cards -- ISTR this coming up before and hearing they do not. Do you have any experience with one and Norton online?

I agree with you and others about not using one if you have an alternative ....

I've been using a Visa debit card from my bank for years in Norton Account. I just recently paid for another year of subscription last month. I've never had a single problem with it.

I agree with Peterweb's post above, be selective where you shop online. I only use two or three places to shop online.

Thanks Ed

I'm glad to have that cleared up for me.
