Issue abstract: I use a 256 Gigabyte SD card with NTFS file system mounted in the card reader port of my HP desktop computer as an extra internal hard disk for storing all critical data files. I do not use the “Documents” folder on the C: drive assigned to each user of the computer. In the event of an emergency, these critical files can be easily removed from the computer simply by popping out the SD card from its reader slot. The Windows 11 operating system, however, sees this as a “USB drive” and not as a “Local disk”, so Norton Cloud Backup does not include it in the list of directories that can be included in a Backup set. But it is precisely these critical data files on the SD card that I want included in the Norton Backup set for this computer. The other data file types that Norton Cloud Backup wants to include in a Backup set simply do not reside on the C: drive at all.
To accomplish this, a “mounting space” on the C: drive must be created that can be linked to the SD card.
So, the following actions were performed:
-
Create a new directory of the C: drive using the Windows File Manager. I renamed this directory Dlink.
-
Open Disk Manager console in Windows by right-click on the Windows Start Menu.
-
Right-click on the SD Card and click Change Drive Letter and Paths…
-
Click Add…
-
In the Add a new drive letter or path for D select the radio Mount in the following empty NTFS folder:.
-
Click Browse… and navigate to the Dlink directory that you created. Click OK.
To verify that the link has been created successfully, right-click on your SD card again and click Change Drive Letter and Paths… The window should list two drive letters and paths:
D:
Windows (C:) \Dlink
Cancel out of this window and close the Disk Management console.
