Do multiple graphics cards in a computer benefit Norton Crypto, and also do they need to be in SLI or just separate?
El dooderino, you are correct. You do NOT want to run NVLink (formerly known as "SLI") for crypto mining. This will in fact reduce the overall hash rate.
I’ve been told you do not want to SLI the GPUs you are using while mining. Supposedly lowers hashrate and can cause intermittent crashes.
I had asked a similar question in another thread. I have now set a baseline standard for my PC without engaging dual GPUs. I've set dual GPUs to SLI, and will report back with any noticed increase in average hash rate.
Please don't forget to give me "KUDOS" ;-)
You know, now that you mention it, you’re right! I guess I’ll sell the 950s and pick up something newer. I’ll probably update this thread once I’ve gotten reconfigured. Thanks for pointing that out, I completely forgot about the reqs
If I remember correctly, Norton 360 has specific minimum hardware requirements for its cryptomining tool. The Nvidia 950 doesn't have the required minimum amount of graphics memory. Norton 360 requires at least 6GB. There are other mining software tools that can use the 950 with no issues. Average mining profit for a 950 is around .90-95c per day.
Also, your 1070Ti is performing lower than expected is most likely due to an increase in both power consumption and heat generation after you added the 950 cards. Changing the total amount of PCI-E lanes has little effect on crypomining. GPU memory speed is the number one contributor. If temps increase enough, thermal throttling sets in and overall cryptomining performance drops. That's why more and more people are underclocking GPUs and overclocking the memory and have switched to watercooling or hybrid cooling setups for the best mining performance.
Was wondering this myself lately. I am running a 1070ti on my gaming rig. I also had a couple 950s laying around, so I hooked them up (Did not SLI bridge them) and started mining. After monitoring the performance of my computer over night, the 2 950s I connected had no load put on them what so ever. My 1070ti was averaging around 45% load. Temperature difference between the GPUs is also notable. the 1070ti was running around 65C, while the 950s were running cold around 30C. This leads me to believe that Norton Crypto does not support multiple GPU mining. It is also interesting to note that even though the 950s were not being used to do any mining, they negatively affected performance of my 1070ti, as my mobo changes the number of lanes on the main PCI slot when other PCI slots are in use.
