When I view my childrens’ activity, I see this: Norton Safety Minder has been disconnected. Monitoring unavailable. I can see their activity being logged but it is no longer monitored and they can view anything. How are they shutting this off?
Using SafetyMinder v1.2.0.39 with Norton Internet Security 2010 (17.1.0.19). On XP SP3.
So far so good with this combination, except for one annoying thing.
SafetyMinder, ever since it was installed, seems now to prevent the XP SP3 client from going into Standby Power Save Mode (at night). Therefore, the PC wastes power all night, and the client reports (every few minutes) to my OnlineFamily account that the user is "signed in during curfew" (my child is actually not using the computer during this time). I believe some of the web pages my child views auto-update every few minutes, which may make it appear to the SafetyMinder client that the user is present.
To summarize, nothing is exactly "broken", but I would like SafetyMinder to respect XP's power-saving feature (which worked just fine before the SafetyMinder product was installed). This will save power, save wear on the hardware, and provide more meaninful curfew information.
Following the recommendation of several posters (regarding Norton Internet Security 2010 on XP), who said that setting Standby to less than 30 minutes would enable Standby to function correctly, I did this. Standby is still not kicking in on my client, but the curfew violations are no longer being reported by SafetyMinder! An interesting result.
Thanks for reporting this to us. We've had no luck reproducing the issue so far. Could you post the Standby setting screen and Time Settings screen on the Website here or email them to me? You can find my email address at http://community.norton.com/norton/profile?user.id=15038
