Using Virtual Desktop Streamer with META Quest 3 VR has a conflict with Norton 360

In order to use apps wirelessly on a Windows computer using a Quest 3 VR headset, you need the Virtual Desktop Streamer app. This app reports a conflict with Norton 360 on startup, and it advises uninstalling it. I went to settings and gave permission to all 3 VDS functions that were listed in the Norton app, but that did not solve my problem.

I get a basic connection, but cannot set up operating parameters, as the VDS setup screen disappears after 5 seconds.
Is there a workaround this situation? I need Norton to protect me, so I cannot uninstall it!

@KarlJ_Mierzejewski Hello. First things first.

  • What is your Windows 11 version and build?
  • What is the version of Norton you have installed? Version 25.xx is the latest release.
  • Is Windows running in S mode?
-What shows in Norton history that states Norton is blocking your Quest 3 VR headset? A screenshot would be great for review so we may see what you are seeing.
-Is Norton suggesting Quest has malware?
-What source are you getting the Virtual Desktop Streamer app from? META?
    -Is your GPU supported? https://www.meta.com/help/quest/140991407990979/

Other questions are, are you connecting to your 2.4 or 5Ghz Wifi network?
Have you reset the Norton firewall and rebooted the machine to retest?
Does disabling “Game Mode” in Windows along with hardware accelerating the GPU and retested change anything?

I have the same issue:

  • What is your Windows 11 version and build? - Win11 24H2 26100.3775

  • What is the version of Norton you have installed? Version 25.xx is the latest release. - 25.3.9983 (build 25.3.9983.925)

  • Is Windows running in S mode? - No

  • What shows in Norton history that states Norton is blocking your Quest 3 VR headset? A screenshot would be great for review so we may see what you are seeing. - SCF10FF.PS1 (IDP.Generic) - Blocked, detected by Behavioral detection

  • Is Norton suggesting Quest has malware? - Not the Quest, the Streamer software installed to the PC

  • What source are you getting the Virtual Desktop Streamer app from? META? - Virtual Desktop Official site

  • Is your GPU supported? - Yes definitely - Nvidia RTX5090

  • Are you connecting to your 2.4 or 5Ghz Wifi network? - 5Ghz

The last 2 questions I can’t answer at this stage as I accepted the block on SCF10FF and the software will not run as a result. Until I have an understanding of whether the Behavioural Protection has misinterpreted this as malware I wont proceed.

Your Quest 3 VR headset has the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 CPU which is ARM 64 based. Being that it also allows for control of a PC that too coupled with ARM architecture is what I believe the issues are. Norton is dealing with what it sees as a “double whammy”, trying to protect the PC and at the same time sees ARM being present as well. I suggest using the Norton app from the Microsoft Store vice N360 on this device as a test to see whether it will allow things to work properly. Remove your current Norton product before installing to test. This app supports ARM and is created for Windows 11 on ARM. Just testing out what the differences may be for your benefit.

Thanks for the tip. As I am using my Quest 3 to display aircraft simulation apps that are running on my desktop, I do not need to move around and can be tethered to my desktop. I therefore decided to use a USB cable link, which runs a native META Quest app which doesn’t conflict with anything I am running on my desktop.

So you have a solution of sorts? Just making sure we are on the same page.
